People repeatedly ask me how I manage the stress/sorrow/work load of nursing. My reply remains constant. Where else can you work, leave at the end of the shift and count the positives? Each shift is a learning experience, something positive always happens, and it's absolutely fantastic to see positive results.
This is my 3rd Degree, my 3rd career. At this point I cannot imagine doing anything else. I couldn't say that with my other two. I am a nurse, I am here to stay!!

WEll I can't say I am fairing so well. AFter 16 years of nights, weekends, holidays and on call 24/7, going out to see patients in the middle of the night, I am considering leaving. I had posted elsewhere that in home health my average hours worked/vs. hours suffered to work for the company made my compensation between 9 to 11 per hour. Not worth it.........

Renerian..
Perhaps you just need a "time out"...
Might do you some good to do sth. entirely different for awhile and "get away from it all"... do sth. totally mundane.
May take a year, may take more.. then again, may take only a few months. But you'll at least be removed from the scene to be able to think clearly and sort things out for yourself.
If you're meant to continue nursing, you'll sure know it.
Wish you the best in whatever you decide ! Take it easy for awhile, ok?

Nursing is a very big part of who I am. I love being a nurse and can't think of any other career I'd prefer. There are so many types of nursing to choose from: Medical surgical, pediatric, geriatric, icu, emergency, case management, community, psych, teaching... You'll never get bored. It isn't just a job or career. It is who I am. a nurse
