nursing advice

Hi everyone I really want to be a crna and I know its going to take a while for that to happened.my concern is that in my general ed classes like math and English,I have B's. Should I worry if I want to go to a nursing program.my goal is to get straight A's in classes like anatomy, chemist, and microbiology before applying. Lastly am 21 is that too late to start my prerequisites for nursing school. Any tips would be helpful

THANK YOU :)

A pre-nursing student wanting to be a CRNA is like a pre-med student wanting to be a trauma/neuro surgeon. We see it it everyday here.

Do well in school and get your BSN. You should be able to take it from there. Anything else I type is wasted key strokes.

Math is pretty important. The classes that nursing schools look at to see if you will likely succeed in nursing school are math, sciences and english classes (this is what all the schools I am applying at have told me). However, for CRNA, (and this is in my area, so it may be completely different in your area) sure, they look at grades adn GPA, but around here they require 3 years of BSN ICU experience (nothing against ADN at all, the schools here just won't accept ADN ICU experience). That experience in the ICU and references are huge. If I were you, I would research the CRNA schools in your area, or that you think you will be wanting to apply to, so you know now what will be expected from you at that time. ;)

As for being 21 and just starting prereqs? "Too late" doesn't exist. I am 32 and finishing up my prereqs this summer. You will be fine. :)

Thank u for responding u helped me a lot. I just have one quick question, would I get in if I have B's in both English and math bec I keep reading that u can only get into nursing school with A's.

I read that as well. My advisors at my current school also told me this.. however, I have a 3.8 and all the schools I am applying to keep acting and looking impressed with my GPA. Straight A's helps, obviously, but a lot of schools also put a lot on interview, essay, and references... oh and entrance exams (like the TEASV). Also, some schools are much more competitive just because of the number of people applying. If you get into a less competitive school this does not necessarily mean it is not just as good a school.

The best thing to do is apply to many schools (I have four I am applying to) and do your research on each school. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. :)

I definitely dont think it's too late to start you pre-requisites! I started at 23.

I am not sure where you are planning on applying, but a lot of schools also look at volunteering, which can help your application.

Good luck!
