Hi Beth,

I'm an RN with 23 years of home health experience. I am currently working full time and plan to keep my job however, I am looking for supplemental income. Any ideas on flexible part-time RN jobs?

Let's see if I can brainstorm to get you started.

To earn more income, is it possible to promote within your workplace, to Supervisor, or Director?

How about looking into telephonic triage or case managing, maybe on weekends off, or evenings?

Telephonic health coach?

If you have a Bachelor's or Master's degree, there are online universities who need nursing instructors. This can be done from home, on your off-time.

Do you enjoy writing? Writing nursing articles affords supplemental income, and is flexible. You can start writing here, at allnurses.com. You have a huge audience and great opportunity.

Are there any group homes in your area that need a nurse to oversee medication administration on a relief or part-time basis? A friend of mine does this, and it's very flexible. She's available by phone for problems, but doesn't have to put much time in at the facility.

If you are entrepreneurial, you could obtain your AHA BLS instructor certification and teach non-healthcare provider CPR to companies. Depending on your state, you could become a CE provider for nursing assistants or RNs and offer CE classes.

I'll keep thinking, and hopefully some readers will add some ideas for you.

Agency nursing would be a possibility - you tell them when you are available, and in general, no penalty for refusing a possible assignment. Ask around in your area what the best agencies are - people always talk and it should not be hard to find out.

Writing for allnurses is an INCREDIBLE opportunity to gain exposure and test the waters as a writer.

I started a blog in the fall of 2014 and immediately realized..it's not enough to write, you need a reading audience. I once read "You can paint the most beautiful painting in the world, but if it sits in your garage and no one sees it.."
