Thank you, Karen....
Later this month, I'll be mentoring an Rn who is returning after some 10 years of being away from Nursing. I feel very privileged to be a part of this new-to-our-area program... and the woman I'm mentoring has said the same thing. Apparently, they are required to have a set number of hours classtime and 144 clinical hours with their RN Mentor.
I pray that I'm worthy of this responsibility, as I want this RNs experience to be a positive one....
Peace:)
Thanks Karen for the RN refresher link. I took the survey on that site, and bookmarked it so I could read it more thoroughly later. :)
I haven't worked as a nurse in 5 years, and would love to find a refresher course to take so I can return to nursing. We're in TX now due to military orders, but hopefully won't be here more than another year. I do NOT want to obtain a nursing license for TX. It is too expensive for one. They want too much information that I would have to pay for out of pocket......and since I've worked in a lot of states before, they want a verification from every state I've worked in, and those verification fees add up. Also, TX requires a nurse to take a refresher course if she/he hasn't worked in over 4 years......and that would include me. We are NOT going to make TX our home, so why put in all that money for just a short stay here? :)
Welcome!

Community College of Allegheny County (Pittsburgh) has a refresher course that is quite reasonable. Reported to be good but I don't know that from personal experience. It is $625 dollars. I don't think that is bad. There are some hospitals in the area that will cover the cost, at least there were a year ago, haven't heard anything about it in a while. Thanks again Karen...and the welcome!
It will be an honor and a priviledge to advance this site and nursing as well.
I worked burns for a long time fresh out of school, and would like to go back in an ICU as quickly as possible...i like the intensity.
God I hate med-surg floors, but I can handle it for a year or 2.
By the way I'm 48 yo male, sawed off at the knees, and as the economy drops I think there will be more male nurses who went on to "better" things when they were younger coming back.
I realize nurses have it hard, been there done that, but having been out there it is a haven for me...and much easier than a lot of things.
So, I am still
