I am sooooo happy to know of so many women and men who have pursued their dream even when the world lables us as too old. I am a 35 yo wife and mother of 4 daughters. 18 and in college already (graduated in May 08) 16 HS Soph. 8 3rd grade and 22 months! Now tell me how to get my first year of Prereqs done (Sept 08) with 3 children 2 of which can't take care of themselves and the other doesn't know how to help me even when I show and tell her what to do. My husband is't home much. I work full time and my mom babysits. I already have an Associate Degree in Medical Assisting but wouldn't you know none of my credits transfered to where I'm going now the only thing I have to look forward to is that I'ver been in A&P before and I feel confident that I know the material. Aslo I've worked in Fam. Pract. and OB/GYN for a conbo of 7 years so I think I may be somewhat ahead of the game. Only thing is my study habits. I have none, I'll have to learn how to study to get the most out of the classes. Thanks to all of you who've made making up my mind to go for my dream a little easier. And I have to say, I'm a praying woman so I thank God more!

You can do it! I have 3 kids and started my pre reqs when the two youngest started kindergarten, I was 35. You said your mom will help with baby sitting so thats a huge hurdle. I recomend taking classes one at a time until you get your feet wet and develop some good study skills. I am 40 now and I am going to start my 2nd semester of nursing school in the fall. It's taken me a long time but I know in the end it will be worth it. I am glad I have pecked away at it, it might be longer but I feel my family has needed me and I had to find a balance.

Since your mom can watch you little ones, I would suggest that after class you head to the library to organize your notes and go over any info you are unsure of. I think with your background you will have an easier time with the material than most. Good Luck and I think you will be able to find what works best for you -you sound very capable and determined!

Some schools have classes for new students that emphasize learning and study skills. You might find some good in taking this class. You can also minimize time spent going to the campus by taking classes online if possible. Some people find that they don't like online courses, so you might want to do some research about specific classes and the instructors to see if you want to do this. You should also fix yourself a private corner where you set up your study office and tell the kids to not bother you unless an emergency comes up. You will probably find that your best study time is when they are in bed. When I was in high school I found that I could get my schoolwork done by getting up at 3 or 4 in the morning and avoiding everybody. I got more done this way. Good luck with your endeavors and remember that you have a good reason to keep yourself motivated and on track.

Way to go!!! I was 42 when I began NS, to fulfill a life long dream. I graduated valedictorian! My husband has CAD and I had 4 children at home and worked 2 p/t jobs. You can do it, I did b/c I had to. It wasn't easy but it is do-able. Just remember to make time for the family, you still want them after NS...:yeah: Remember "failure is not an option!" I have been practicing for just over 1 yr., and I still love it! I'll keep you in my prayers.
