First interview since license reinstated.....HELP!!

Nurses Recovery

I have my first interview this week since having my RN license reinstated last week. I am in the Chemical Dependency Discipline Program in NC (clean since 2004 :) ). I am interviewing at a Nursing home for a Treatment Nurse position. How do I go about telling them about the Program? I know that I should "sell" myself to them first, but how do I highlight my nursing abilities and not make them focus on the Program so much (if that's possible)? ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!

There are many threads in this forum that discuss this. You might try doing a search using words like "disclose" and "interviewing" to get more ideas.

As for myself, I typed up a very brief statement without gory details. It has worked for me to give it to the interviewer towards the end of a positive interview. Obviously, if I don't think they are interested in hiring me anyway, there is no pint in disclosing my license issues.

I like to present it in writing in case I get nervous & might blurt something out that might make my situation seem worse than it is. Then I can answer any questions that the interviewer may have directly and with candor and dignity.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Congrats! Im also in the same program in nc and Ive been trying to find a job for over a year! Good Luck..

I also am in the program, be 100% honest upfront from the get go believe me they will check with BON before youre hired. If you try to hide anything they will find out and can lead to a burnt bridge. If youre honest you can leave the interview knowing you did the rt thing and if its meant to be it will be. Good Luck.

I have been on 6 LTC interviews and have been 100% honest with them all. The interviews have all gone wonderfully and they have all wanted to hire me but can't work with the restriction of no narcotic access. Oh well, I will keep moving forward. Something will work out sooner or later hopefully.

Try Dr office, dialysis center, pysch, but as long as you stay clean something will happen for you. Good luck

Any ideas on how to find a dr's office that might be interested?

Find a local Caduceus meeting in your area, there will be Drs,nurses, pharm, ect good chance one they know not the first meeting, doors will open and a network can form for you. Good luck I am in hickory nc AREA not sure where you are but if i can help anyone i will.

Thanks, the caduceus group here is very sporificely attended and has no nurses at it. It is mostly pharmacists who have never lost their jobs even though they diverted drugs big time. When the rare nurse comes, they keep to themselves and there is no networking. Isn't that sad?

Thanks for the idea, please give me more if you can think of any.

Around here there in no Caduceus group that I have found (Piedmont Triad). I have tried dr offices but they are only hiring CMA's and LPN's these days. LTC floor nurses pass narcs and the admin nurses are on call (I can't work 11p-7a). I have put in apps at dialysis centers and called the nurse managers to follow up but just get the generic "We're looking at apps and will call those we are interested in". I search Monster, Careerbuilder, Indeed, Simply Hired, Craigslist and all the other sites multiple times a day. I know something will work out, just not in "my time"

Talk to those in the Dr office plead your case to them point out you are a RN your willing to do the job they are having a lpn or cma do and your concern is not money related. Trust me it does work it worked for me. I would rather be working for minimum wage and start getting my restrictions lifted than refuse a job due to low pay and a year from now still have no job and all the restrictions on me. It is almost like a game heres your restrictions go find a job. They are out there just dont give up.

How do you go about finding dr office jobs? Only thing I have found is by googling "family practice" or something to that extent and then seeing if they have a website and email address listed. ALOT of our dr offices are owned by Novant or Wake Forest Baptist or Cone Health around here and they aren't giving me the time of day when I apply to jobs there, with my restrictions.
