Nurses and Computers

Hello,

I am trying to find out ways of how to combine the

profession of a nurse

with computer usage.

No doubt that the usual work of a nurse can be done, as it

always was,

without a computer.

What I am looking for is to find out as to which directions

this

combination can leads. What are the eventual employment

or new

professions which can be emerged out of this combination.

All this is for a person, who is a nurse for some years, and

who wishes

to expand possibilities.

I would like to find out information as to:

- How can she best integrate the computer, preferably iMac or iBook, but can be any other PC, into her routine work.

- How can she combine her knowledge and experience with new profefessions utilizing computers and Nursing as tools to create another may be more chalanging employment.

If you can elaborate on it, having any further knowledge

about, or have

any sources of available further investigation on the

subject, I would

appreciate it very much.

or Telehealth? Both would fit the above description.

There are many job titles within Nursing Informatics. Clinical Applications Analyst,

End User Trainer, Informatics Consultant,etc.

I would like to find out information as to:

Ever used a palm pilot? There are programs available that give you access to PDRs,

drug interactions and dose calculations.

Programs that provide care plans and

clinical path templates, etc.

As for laptops and notebooks, think about utilizing an Access Data base for statistical data collection or an Excel spread sheet for staff scheduling.

Hello Raymond!

Are you questioning what a nurse can do with computers, working as a nurse? Or changing careers altogether? I run a home-based internet business in preventive healthcare, which I feel is complimentary with being a nurse. Many nurses I know distribute online e-zines and books related to their nursing specialties. And, certainly there are many data processing jobs in healthcare which might be of interest to a nurse.
