Nurses caring for AIDS patients

Hello

My name is Karlie I am a 2nd year nursing student at the University of Windsor, Ont. Canada. I am currently conducting a research paper on AIDS, asking questions via email. I am very interested in AIDS and the wide spread of this epidemic. I am looking for nurses who work with patients with AIDS and the strategies they use to care for these patients. Hi Karlie,

I have worked with many AIDS patients in the past. As a registered nurse, I treated them the same way I did my other patients. I gave them VIP treatment. I was not afraid to touch them, hug them, wipe away their tears, or be a sounding board for them. If they needed me to sit by their bed and hold their hand while they cried or talked about their pending death, I willingly sat with them for a while.

One of the best things you can do for an AIDS patient besides the necessary nursing measures is to be a good listener, and don't act like they are no longer human beings in need of love, understanding, and a nurse who is willing to be a good listener when they need one.
