nurses under the care of a psychiatrist

Published

Can a nurse get treatment from a psychiatrist if they have general anxiety disorder or depression without losing their license? Just wondering.

Good God yes, I can only imagine the nursing shortage if not!! Nurses are people and patients too, we need to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others, good luck

This brings up another question (not meaning to hijack the thread). How does the BON look at nurses/nursing students who have been psych inpatients? I imagine that it would raise a red flag, but does it prohibit getting/keeping your license?

The board cannot find out if anyone has been a psych patient unless they disclose it and most states do not ask Texas is one exception. Inpatient Pysch visits are covered under HIPPA and probably the only time anyone would be able to legally look that up is a) your trying to buy a gun or b) your applying for some kind of high level federal position
