Just finished my interview. It was extremely intense. My nerves were shot, and by the last question I was so nervous that I think I completely missed the boat answering it. Who knows.....I hope I scored real high on everything else in case my interview wasn't brilliant. Good luck everyone.
What track did you interview for?
I interviewed for Critical Care. Two of the three ladies were nurse managers on ICU units, which made me feel a little intimidated. I hope I get it. I showed my passion for nursing and my patients and clearly expressed education is important to me. I think I just didn't do so hot on the "tell me a time when...." stories, which sucks cause I actually prepared yesterday for it! It's amazing the "word vomit" that comes out of your mouth when you're nervous =]
Haha! I know what you mean about "word vomit"! Everything that came into my head I said.

hi i'm new to allnurses but i have enjoyed reading all ur post. i am interested in attending vanderbilts nurse residency program for the summer 2012. my interest is in critical care. i have a few ? i wanted to ask regarding the interview process. do u all feel the interview is similar to a job interview? do u believe anything would have been different if you included more textbook language in response to the questions asked? i'm just trying to get a feel of what to expect for the interview.
Do any of u know of any other nurse residency programs located in tennessee?
The interview is similar to a job interview except with a lot more situational questions from my experience. I had 10 situational questions I think. I don't think "textbook language" would help. They want u to be able to come up with examples on the spot and exercise safe nursing practices in your examples. I didn't think the interview was as bad as I anticipated. I kind of enjoyed it. I can't think of any other residency programs in Tennessee.
