HI,

Can anyone help me in clearing my doubts?. do i need ssn for getting licence in Oregon State Board Of Nursing.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Did you check the OR BoN website?

No you donot need SSN for license in Oregon.

All you need to do is sign the form that declares you don't have SSN which you will provide when you acquire.

To the OP: What year did you get your BSN? Do you have any prior hospital working experiences? This can affect your eligibility as OR has certain other licensing requirements.

So you're saying like in FL (and a few other states), in OR, one can take the NCLEX-RN without a SS#, but will not issue the license until the passing applicant provides the SS#?

But let us assume the OR BON does release the RN license without the SS#, the OP will still need either the valid work authorization SS# or a valid working visa/permit and depending on the OP's citizenship and birthdate, the visa process can take several years at best.

I forgot to add to my above comments, that the OP needs to obtain the proper legal document or paperwork that will allow him/her to apply for any job in the US as one of the usual question on the application form is something to the following: "Are you legally able to work in the US?", some follow up to asking if you're a US citizen or have alien status and by which classification is that.

Oregon will not require SSN to issue license. That means yes they will release nursing license however, you will certainly need other licensing requirements as mentioned in the board website :

As Virginepgirl mentioned, it's a legal form that you must sign something to the effect that you do not have a SS# for whatever reasons, BUT when you do get the SS#, you must then report this to the OR BON. This is what the BON's use to be able to track your whereabouts (for income tax purposes, any criminal activity, etc). You have so many days when you get the SS# to let the BON know.

But again, what year did you get your BSN? Any paid working hospital experiences?

As far as the IELTS exam, I would concentrate more on that so that you can get a good passing score the first time. I would look at the various Youtube videos, maybe enroll in a course.

How will you get the proper working visa? If you have already started the process, what is the current status of your application? Or do you have another way of obtaining one?

You see by many others, they have passed the NCLEX-RN, but without having a SS# or working visa, it's not possible to work legally in a US employment job. The employer must usually E-verify the SS# so that they do not face having to answer to the state labor laws and being fined a heavy money penalty.
