If I only have nursing home experience rather than hospital experience, would it be counted as experience when I apply for NP school?

Thanks!

What type of program?

Actually I'm not a RN now. I'll start 1~ year accerelated BSN this fall. I heard of it's nor easy to find a position in hospital as new graduate, especially in my area and current economy. So I think in case I land a job eventually in nursing home, the experience there would be counted as "experience" when I apply for MSN program such as ANP or FNP (they often require one year RN experience)?

Thanks for your inputs!

Experience is experience. Whether or not it is appropriate experience is another question. I was accepted for a home health job with only long term care experience. I think the employer was having a hard time getting anyone for that particular case. I also think that they were impressed that I was in a BSN program at the time. These two factors I believe, countered the nursing home experience.

Thanks for your reply! My question is actually if I'm qualified for applying for MSN program (ANP or FNP) with only long term care experience or they require the RN experience must be hospital experience.

My response that you are looking for is in the first two sentences. The rest is only an example. No one can fault you for your experience. But they can choose another for a job or a school program because they have more appropriate experience.

You will have to check with the school to which you apply for NP program. LTC experience is beneficial in an FNP and ANP program. But, some programs may want to see a more well-rounded experience.

And, some programs do not require a specific type of RN experience.

All depends on where you apply.
