Just wondering if any of the NP's in this forum have any experience to share regarding securing an NPI number. I recently obtained mine after a long and confusing process through my employer. With the deadline approaching (May 23), there's a mad rush in my facility to make sure all mid-levels have one. We are being threatened with having our billing codes de-activated if we don't have one by the stated dealine.

Yes, I got one also. Have no clue HOW I got one as I'm in a large practice and we have a credentialling person that fortunately deals with the red tape. I do not have a UPIN number though because they wouldn't issue me one since the NTI numbers are coming.

From what I have read the UPIN isn't needed anymore, just NPI. And getting the NPI was easy for me when I got it, just did it online and 1 confirmation email and that was done.

You're right the UPIN is no longer necessary once we all start a universal NPI number. See, my theory is correct - I would have gotten a number right away had I done the process myself rather than having people from work do it for me.

I wonder how much that person at your work got paid for the 3 minutes of work (& days of sitting) they did to get your NPI #.
