Being a Nurse for over ten years - I am finding this "new" thing of putting together a Nursing Portfolio, the most frustrating, time consuming experience. Most of us experienced nurses have not kept up with keeping all those bits of paper/certificates of all the zillions of CEU's that we have completed over the years. Other than a 17 page resume - what else goes in this portfolio thing? I'm over it already.
I have an assignment for my BSN to start working on a portfolio. I have been a nurse for 16 years, and I have not kept any of my papers or achievements in order to have any kind of proof that what I say I did, I did indeed. Except for a couple of evaluations, I didn't keep anything, and even if at some point I attempted to do this, I moved a few years ago, and threw out all the papers that seemed to be just a pile of junk. I was never much of a scrap books keeper. Will it be enough to start from now on?

I think it is unrealistic to expect nurses who have been in the profession as long as we have to of kept all that clutter. There were hundreds of ceu's that had to be done over the years when I worked in a hospital. And it was never mandatory until the last few years. What did the teacher advise for those who have done so many that we just tolerate it to meet the needs of the licensing board. ? It's crazy.

my hubs is a teacher and has one online. there are MANY free services out there. you can scan in/upload all your 'stuff' and it drops into pages. pretty handy...i'm used to 'portfolios' being married to a teacher...lots of work but they get pretty fancy!
