What are nurse/patient ratios like where you work? ICU? Med/surg? Other?

Here in Sask, I usually get 1 patient in the ICU. I hear that the medical and surgical floors can get up to 16-18. Is the entire country similar to this?

Any body knows about illinois ratios in nursing homes?

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

Since this is the Canadian Forum I doubt anyone knows anything about Illinois.

The surgical floor I'm on (in NB) is usually 6-7 on days, 7-8 on evenings, and 10-13 on nights. I believe our ICU has a 1-2:1 ratio.

Northern Ontario

ICU 1-3 per RN depending on acuity and staffing on

Med. and Sur. 1 -5-6 (So 1 RN for that many patients.)

Do you fill out PRC or work load complaints....they may protect you in the long run if you are looking after sick, sick patients....
