Well I work on a M/S Telemetry floor as a CP for 2 years. I officially graduated college in July. I scheduled my boards for Sept. 30, 2009. (Liscense didn't go online until Oct. 1) I took my boards and passed. In the meantime in May/June my NM hired a new grad intern. Then in Sept and in early Oct she hired 2 more new grads. This is the kicker you can only have 3 grads on your floor. And I missed the internship deadline. So of course when I told my NM I passed boards she already has 3 new grads and will ask director of nursing for any accomodations for me, She felt bad. My NM said if I would of took the boardas sooner She would of took me over the last applicant. She didnt know I was taking my boards that early. Anywho I aked around and went to other NM floor noone's hiring New grads. Positions already filled. One NM on another floor who I spoke with said she had one position open but she has somebody who is about to take their boards. I feel like why my NM couldnt hold a spot for me. To make a long story short Ive been doing applications and am getting nowhere. I just feel like my NM wasn't taking my situation into consideration. Now Im still a CP at this facility but to be honest that kinda hurted my feelings. I thought you look out for those on our own floor first then people coming from outside the hospital. Has this happened to anyone else?
If I knew she was in talks to hire those 2 other new grads on our floor. I would of pushed my boards up sooned. But everything happens for a reason. So I take it for whats it worth. Really I think when it all comes down to it I'm the only one looking out for me in a sense.

It's unfortunate that you and your manager weren't keeping each other abreast of the situation. This is a failure to communicate, on both of your parts, but frankly, more on your part.
You are correct in stating that YOU are the only one looking out for YOU, especially in the job-hunt situation.
Sorry you find yourself in this situation. Best wishes!

Hang in there and keep in touch with your NM. Not every new hire is a good fit and one of the new hires might decide your floor is not for them. You never know. P.S. Always be helpful and kind; (I knew someone who tried to "torpedo" a new hire hoping for her spot--she got a bad reputation and nursing is a small world!)
