nurse midwife--how?

I am about to begin an accelerated bsn/rn program that will end in 15 months. I have been thinking about becoming a labor and delivery nurse a lot lately...for some reason it has been placed on my heart. I know I should wait until I have completed clinicals to make decisions, but I want to do a little leg work now.

Where can I find out more info about becoming a nurse midwife in Texas? What is the career outlook? Is the salary decent? What are the hours like? Any info anyone can give is greatly appreciated. I have been thinking about CRNA for the longest because the salary, nature of the work, and autonomy intrigue me, but nurse midwife piques my interest even more.

thanks in advance!

Specializes in OB.

Hi! I am an OB nurse who is just starting work on my Master's to become a Certified Nurse Midwife.

Check out the ACNM website and look under Advanced Practice Nurses, under specialties here, and CNMs have their own forum.

I'm going to Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Kentucky which offers a wonderful distance learning program.

Good Luck!

Easiest way to find out is throught the ACNM. I too am a Frontier Schooler..

Specializes in Nurse Manager, Labor and Delivery.

For all of you Frontier women.....I am in process of applying to that program. Any input?? Do you like it? Is it do- able with work?? I am excited to start the program (hopefully in the fall). I am glad to see others going to Frontier.
