Hi all!
i am a recent new grad RN. I've heard about protecting your license and one of those ways is insurance. What are your thoughts? And company suggestions? I heard it's a must but I also heard some people say not to?
THANK YOU!

Hi, Rsull16, welcome to AN! malpractice insurance is something that comes up every so often, and there are already some really good posts about it that are still relevant. If you use the search bar, you'll find some articles by Risk Manager and sirI that have started some very thorough discussion.

I haven't looked into this personally yet, But the idea of an umbrella insurance policy to protect your license, and protection in cases of malpractice, negligence, slander etc. seems like a good idea. they will be more expensive, but that is because they cover more and have less exclusions. The mass of exclusions is why nursing malpractice policies are so cheap.

I have had malpractice insurance with Nurse's Service Organization since I was a student. My premium is very reasonable ( I have added to it as my circumstances evolved) and I am now covered up to $2,000,000.00. This will protect me, my family and our financial assets in the event I get sued or accused of any malpractice or malfeasance.
The decision is ultimately yours but ask yourself if you can afford a $5,000.00 to retain an attorney or if you have any financial assets at risk such as a home.
IMHO - it is a mistake not to have malpractice insurance!
