The article states the pt was being externally paced. That's why the nurse was way outside her scope. If this pt had been coding and they were out of options, then I could see them trying to rig a set up, but that's not the case. It would be nice to have more info.

It is an abomination to externally pace a pt for any longer than it takes to get a cardiologist in to place a wire.

Ha ha it's all good! I has to go back and double check that I had read it right!! We don't even come close to having all the info needed so it's hard to know what really happened. But bottom line is no state allows nurses to strip wires and rig pacers. It was out of her scope of practice.
