Hey y'all! I applied to an OR extern for Lebonheur in Germantown. My application status says "application has been reviewed", so I called HR to see what it meant. The nice lady said it was on its way to the hiring manager! This was on 11/12 and my Lebonheur nurse friends says that's a great thing! I also noticed that they took the job posting down in the search results, unlike the others I applied to. Now, I'm waiting and I can't help but wonder what to expect next? I'm trying my best to relax and finish the last bit of this semester... But I'm just so excited to even be considered. Anyone have any words of wisdom? I feel like I'm waiting to be accepted into nursing all over again lol!!

Hi there. I am currently an extern at a Methodist hospital in Memphis. First, prepare yourself to wait and wait some more as the hiring process is long and grueling. From the time I submitted my application until the time I actually started working was about 3 months. It may be good to have one of your friends continuously follow up with the nurse recruiter, if you do not have her direct contact information. This is because they are working with so many applicants and normally there is only one nurse recruiter.
After all of your paperwork is submitted (transcripts, letter of recommendation, etc.) you will be called in for your 1st informal interview with the nurse recruiter. You will be asked a series of questions so I would recommend brushing up on your interview skills and please.....have a honest and solid reason as to why you want to be a nurse. You will then complete a few essay questions also.
If/when you get through the first informal interview, you will then be scheduled for a panel interview. I was told that the panel would consist of clients and their families but it was actually 4 top executives asking a series of interview questions. Although I was scared to death and so nervous, I never once let them feel that about me. Again, I cannot stress enough to brush up on interview skills and research the types of questions that you may anticipate being asked when interviewing for a nursing position.
Wait-I almost forgot, in order for you to get the initial interview with the nurse recruiter, you must take an online core value assessment. This is VERY important because your personal and professional values must match what Methodist is looking for in an employee. If your assessment results are unfavorable to Methodist, you will have to wait another 6 months before you can apply again for any of their jobs.
Do not get discouraged if you feel the process is not moving quick enough. Just make sure you have all of your ducks in a row before they send you the link to the online core value assessment. The time will come especially if it is meant for you, and from the sound of it, this is your job already. Just claim it and remain positive!!
Good luck to you!!!
Thanks so much, I heard the process takes forever. Funny you should say that about the interview; I have a sheet I had answered of interview questions just in case . I've been in the medical field for 4.5 years and I absolutely get no greater joy than taking care of someone. Thank you again for the heads up, I heard it was almost impossible to get an externship and I'm just thankful I'm considered. I only dream they call me in to interview me, it's where I want to call home. I had to actually take the assessment and turn it in with my application, so I'm hoping that means it was favorable since I'm being looked at by the hiring manager.
