Welcome to the Nurse Educator Forum. It is my desire that you find this a warm, inviting place and will come here often for friendly, collegial discussions.

Let me introduce myself: I have been an ADN nurse educator in a small community college in North Carolina for the past two years. My areas of specialty are medical-surgical, OBGYN and immediate newborn, and cardiac nursing. In addition to teaching, I conduct clinicals on general medical-surgical, PEDS, postpartum, and cardiac step-down units. Along with being a full time nursing instructor, I am working on my Masters in Nursing Education. I am enrolled in a fully online curricula and have been very satisfied with this so far.

I have learned much these past two years but, I have so much more to learn! I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi all! I am a Hospital Educator currently teaching Critical Care. I am looking for anyone who would be able to share ECG strips (good quality) on different rh ythms. I am so glad that there is a forum like this, I enjoy all of the posts and advice that you all have to give!! Are there any other hospital based educators out there?

Hi all. I am 52 years young! I have been in nursing for over 30 years. I am a diploma RN. I want to get my MSN. I was thinking of Excelsior College. Am I too Old? I love teaching of all kinds but also want some business courses. Please let me know what you all think?

I have been nursing for 24 years, and I am also a diploma RN. I am taking the pre-reqs right now for an RN-MSN program through the University of Texas. There are many online programs - I've heard that Phoenix Online is good. I am taking the combined education and administration tracts. Good luck to you!

Hy i am a nurse clinical educator in the emergency room...I was promoted to this position newly.

I have a BSN degree in nursing and "Diplome D'etat Francais in Nursing". I will be graduating this semester in Master in Health Management & policy. I have 6 years of nursing experience. I worked one year in the oncology floor, & 5 years in the Emergency Room.

hello everyone,

not sure if i quite fit here or not. i'm a health educator and campus nurse at a small southwestern college. i currently hold an ADN and a BA in Recreation & Park Mgt. and am almost finished with my BSN.

i spend the bulk of my time educating college students (and faculty/staff) about health issues and choices. i'm not sure if i'm a nurse educator or an educator nurse :rolleyes:

Hello everyone!

I am a med-surg instructor at a small community college. I have taught nsg. there for 10 years. Basically I have taught the same content the entire time. I have continued to work part time in different clinics. I have not worked on a regular med surg unit for about four years. What is the thought on instructors working vs. not working?

From my experience, if you can't walk the walk then don't talk the talk. Unfortunately, many nurses end up in a position that becomes more academic or administrative than practice focussed. Not to say we don't need these avenues, but we still need to stay grounded in the fundamentals. While I was in Nsg School, some of my instructors didn't even have current licensure! I personnally have kept current and still practice hands on nursing in ER/ICU/Flight. Any time I get tired or discouraged I think of what I look like through the eyes of my students, that helps smarten me up.

New to the academia world of Nursing. How do you measure that you are a great instructor or a good instructor? What strategies do you use to engage adult learners? What are your expectations of the students? What are your expectations? We want to do it all. We are motivated and consider ourselves high achiever. We want students to succeed but at what cost? To complete a nursing program but not able to pass NCLEX. New to the academia world of Nursing.

While I was in Nsg School, some of my instructors didn't even have current licensure!

:eek: :eek: :eek: That's disgraceful (and not required??? I'm surprised. Was this an accredited school?)

Any time I get tired or discouraged I think of what I look like through the eyes of my students, that helps smarten me up.

I find that to be a useful tool as well. They have high expectations of us, and expect us to share our experiences with them. They need to be somewhat current, involving current, evidence-based practice.

I just began my career in Academia (only doing adjunct clinicals) and currently could not survive on that $$ alone. I'm also 31, so it's not a chore to be on the floor. But I could see the temptation of eventually letting it go.

I just finished my 1st semester of teaching ADN students. To seasoned faculty, what did you do for your second semester to engage students? What are you doing today to engage students? Do you use powerpoint? After teaching 2 rotations, I'm not sure if I like powerpoint. I felt confined, restrained. What do you use for lectures? I would like to hear from others- novices to experts.
