Nurse Corps Loan repayment 2015

Published

Hi all,

Has anyone heard anything yet? Im a NP, Tier 1, debt/income ratio 90%, no news yet ...

I had this for 3 years, finished my commitment in 2013. People heard from July all the way until the end of September when I was given the award. I did not hear anything until the last weekday in September, which was the last day of notification. I know you are antsy but it might be awhile until you hear anything. But sounds like you are a good candidate!

I have been checking almost daily, but nothing yet. I am a Tier 1 also. The website just says "under review".

I applied too this year, I still haven't heard from them😁. But we have till September. I am hoping that I get it.

@dukeblue002, MSN, RN I got an email stating that I'm under "final review" I gave them my bank account information, verified I still work at my job, and signed a contract. How long after you did that before you knew you got the award? Also, have you ever heard of anyone getting to the final review and not get an award? I also heard they take about 30% in taxes out. Just looking for some insight. Any info you have would be great! I hope that everyone else hears something soon! All nurses deserve to have help with their loans!

I don't remember being told I was under final review. All I remember was getting an email saying I was being awarded the money. I do remember the date. It was Sept 28, 2010. I did not get the first direct deposit until mid- to end of October.

And yes they do take out taxes. And know this, unless it has changed, they only take out FEDERAL taxes, not state. The first year I owed the state $700+ in taxes from the HRSA money. So after that I changed my W4 at work to have them withhold extra money each paycheck so I wouldn't have to pay state taxes the next year.

If you get the award definitely sign up for the 3rd year when you get close to the end of your contract. Everyone gets it that applies for it. In the end, after 3 years, they may have given me money to pay off 85% of my loans but after taxes, it wasn't even close. It's definitely better than nothing but in my opinion I think they should not advertise they will pay off up to 85% of your loans since in reality they don't. When they asked for feedback I told them this should be a tax free program.

I know it's hard to be patient but what's the use in being anxious about it? It's not going to make them contact you any faster lol. Good luck and let me know when you hear something!

Rossin83 have u heard anything yet? I'm an NP also with about the same debt to income. I haven't heard anything. And I only know of one other np that got it so far

I'll let you kno if i hear anything. It seems like alot of RNs heard already but not many APNs. It's weird this year

I got my email this morning! Sooooo ironic! I'm at a tier one facility in Chicago. Debt to income ratio is a little under 100% good luck everyone!!! Keep us updated!

After taxes and the 3 yrs, abt what percentage of your loan were you able to pay off?
