Nurse Corps Loan Repayment 2014!

Published

Hi everyone,

I am an NP working at a NY facility with a score of 19, which is tier 1. My loans each month are CRAZY (about $1500), so even though my debt:income score isn't as high as some (it's about 120%), this would be life changing for me!

I was just hoping to get some general advice/thoughts from everyone during this very painful waiting process. I've heard that if you do get the award you generally find out in July/August, otherwise rejections mainly come around October.

Has anyone else been in my shoes, with a similar facility score and debt/income score, with any words of wisdom? I'm nervous and thought it would just be nice to chat with other people who are going through the same thing, or who have been through it!

Lastly, for the folks who have gotten this before, what ways do you utilize it? Do you use it to make your minimum monthly payments and try to save, or do you make 1.5 x your regular payments? Pay off private loans first?

Just thought it would be nice to get a convo going this application cycle!

Sarah :)

I received my email at noon today. Big Sigh of Relief !!!

Yea! for us, still praying for the other applicants that are still waiting.

Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone who has received the award so far is not an NP. I have an MSN, CNL and a nurse at my hospital who has a lot lower debt to income ratio than me received the award and is now in her extension year/3rd year and she has a BSN. My status sadly is still in the dreaded "under review" status...So I'm wondering if there is any hope for me? It seems that all the awards were already at least announced via finalists....Can anyone shed some light please...Feeling disheartened :-(

Same here! I confirmed yesterday with HRSA that I am tier 1. Debt to income 215%, staff RN/BSN. Just keep picturing my file at the bottom of a stack on the desk of the slowest processor in the world. I went over my application so many times before submitting that I know my ducks are all in a row. Trying to stay optimistic but so anxious and stressed over this so I have my moments of doubt too :/ In some ways it's reassuring that grandpaj and I aren't the only ones still waiting!

I have been in final review since 7/31. I am anxiously awaiting my congratulations letter. I am becoming a bit nervous though. :nailbiting:

I'm in the same boat... I've been in final review since 7/31. I'm also starting to get worried. I've been obsessing over what things could keep me from getting it, credit stuff or what could possibly be an issue. I don't even know if it matters, and I asked what issues could prevent you from getting the loan once it's in final review, but they didn't really say anything. Keep me posted, and I'll let you know if I hear anything!

I was in final review from 07/18 to 08/28. I do not deny many nights sleep lost to worry, but it has worked out. Don't panic yet, I was 1 day shy of six weeks.

I will definitely keep you posted! My fingers are crossed for both of us and everyone else in our boat. Sjamerson, that gives me hope!! Thank you for posting!! :)

Me too! Thanks sjamerson! You've got your congrats email then, not just the cosignature?

Hey everyone! I am patiently (or not so patiently) awaiting some sort of response regarding my application. Hoping that I am one of the extremely lucky few to be selected! I've seen a few people mention they've confirmed what tier status they are....do we just call the HRSA board to ask? Or is there some sort of process we go through? I'm just curious since it was a bit confusing to determine the status of my hospital. I know it qualifies, but I could not find the score for it anywhere. Thanks! And congrats to those who have heard!

Kdawnz I have been in final review since 7/31/14 too, I am obsessing as well. I signed my contract on 8/4/14, which I know is just shy of a month. It seems like some people have heard as soon as two weeks after they signed and others it has been at least a month. I am keeping my fingers crossed for something soon!! I will do the same for you! When you log onto your online portal is there an option for participant as well as applicant?

Yeah, I have both options on mine as well. I swear if I look at the contract and only see my signature on it another time, I'm going to cry! I think I need to stop obsessing so much, but man it's hard! Good luck to you too, I'll let you know if I hear anything!

Yes I got my packet
