2017 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi Fellow Nurses!

Is anyone else anxiously awaiting the 2017 cycle opening?

I have applied several times and praying that 2017 is my year. I'm tier 1 - not faculty and not an NP.

Is anyone else out there?

Yes!! I am in the exact same boat! This is my 5th year applying...I think??...and am also praying that I can get some relief! My hospital score is 16 and my D/I ratio is >115%. I know that there are a lot of other nurses out there with more debt, but I owe more on my loans than the original loan amount given. Interest is KILLING me!

Here's to hoping that this year will finally be our year! :nono:

Has anyone had any problems with employment verification my POC no longer works there. Just submitted an email request to another POC at my facility

Exactly the same boat and it's SO tough. I did notice that the funding is slightly different this year and I'm just praying SO hard that's it's my time. Best of luck to you!!

Thank you! I'm so thankful that I have a passion for Nursing because I'd be tempted to give my degrees back to knock out my student loans! :D...I'm just kidding...kind of.

Luckily, my D/I ratio just increased to 145% because I was out part of last year after a shoulder surgery and made less money. Hopefully, that will put me in a good place to finally receive this wonderful offer. We shall see. Good luck to everyone!!!

Just call your HR department and ask them for the email of the new POC and send that in.

How is the funding slightly different this year?

Look on the bottom of page 10 in the program guidance section. Of the 30% allotted to the "base RN" group, the funds are further divided into 15% for each grouping of CSFs. I think it makes the chances even slimmer of receiving an award. Nonetheless, praying and praying and praying....

Hi everyone! I applied for this round also--but not getting my hopes up, based on last year's thread. My facility's score is 17, my D/I is only 105%. But miracles do happen, and I'll take what I can get! People generally started hearing things around July last year. Credit checks were run in April. Everyone ready to hurry up and wait? ;)

RN Tier 1 HPSA for MH 17 D/I 160% ish. I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs. 2nd time applying. I was able to automatically transfer my loans this year last year i had to manually enter them, and I could have messed up.

So I assume RN's only get 30% of the money. Based on this below not much chance for me, so I am just going to not dwell on it and wait until summer time. I don't know if I am DSH or CSF. I am obviously a CSF as I have a MH score, but i don't know if that means that only 15% of the money is allocated for me, or if I am also a CSF and DSH, crazy to me.

Funding for the FY 2017 NURSE Corps LRP will be allocated as follows: Up to 50 percent will be made available for NPs.

 Up to 20 percent will be made available for nurse faculty.

Among the remaining 30 percent of NURSE Corps LRP funding:

  •  Up to 15 percent will be made available for Base applicants (RNs and APRNs, excluding NPs)
working at DSHs or public hospitals.

  •  Up to 15 percent will be made available for Base applicants (RNs and APRNs, excluding NPs)
working at all other types of CSFs.

Hello Everyone,

I work at Osawatomie State Hospital, Kansas and we have multiple RN positions available for those interested in the Nurse Corps LFP. We are a DSH and since it is Mental Health Facility, I think our chances will be better. I have ONLY two nurses who have applied to the program this year and thus if anyone is interested, please check out our jobs at jobs.ks.gov. Select Miami County and you will see us. I look forward to helping anyone who wants to join us.

application done!

I am a recent graduate and this will my first time applying for the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program. I have uploaded my federal student loans, however I am concerned not all of them will apply because there were a few semesters when taking prerequisites that I took a class (literally one extra class on two different semesters) that did not directly apply to my BSN or should I submit them all regardless? Also, when directly uploading them, it uploads any loans you have ever received which includes one from 1989. Does this mean I should upload all my loans manually or include a supporting document breaking down my loans. I have not found a way to just upload the ones I want or delete the ones I do not wish to submit without deleting them all. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
