nurse to caregiver\nursing assistant

Published

I am so problematic this past few days because I am still thinking on what happened to my application for examination for nursing. I am a nurse in the Philippines but I am residing here in Califonia which is the strictest state when it comes on accepting nurses from other countries. I can't wait that any longer because I think I am wasting so much of my time. I don't know what to do, I should have applied as an lvn first as everyone advice me to do. Now I am thinking to do that but someone told me that I can't apply for the lvn because I've already applied for the eligibility to take examination for RN and it is still on process. Now I am trying to find a job at this moment, I wanna try the caregiver or nursing assistant but how? do i still need to obtain certification or am I exempted because I am a BSN? do I have to go in school again for this?

You can not get a CNA job in CA without a CNA certificate. Without any kind of US credentials at this point, you could work as an unlicensed caregiver, companion, or sitter. Go to home health agencies and inquire. Once you get credentials, CNA, HHA, LVN, or RN, you can move up the healthcare ladder. The agency that you find caregiver employment with, will probably be very happy to employ you in any capacity, once you get your certificate or license.
