Nurse on Cape Cod looking for advice...

Are there any nurses who can clue me in about what jobs exist on Cape Cod that are not in a nursing home or hospital or home care? Do jobs off Cape pay better, say in Plymouth? Do any nurses commute to Boston? I have 19 plus years experience in many fields but don't want to work in the hospital, nursing home or home care. I have health insurance experience and corrections experience mostly, and home care. I would like to buy a house here but am not sure I will get paid enough as the house prices are high (lower than off Cape I know) and the wages seem low. How do you do it? I am single, no kids, have lots of nursing experience.

Thank you for any ideas.

Hi,

I am a newer RN and live on the Cape, I know nurses that commute, it depends if you want to do the drive and how far. I know Travelers insurance is hiring experienced nurses for their workmans comp. division and I am sure they pay well. There are plenty of nurse manager positions in various agencies if you are looking for that type or role. I can't tell if you are looking for hands on nursing or exactly what you are looking for. If you can say what your really looking for that would help make suggestions easier. I have been researching jobs for months so I can give you some leads if I have more of an idea of your goals.

Hi Thanks for the reply. I am looking for a paper job mostly with weekends and holidays off. I would like to stay in the insurance field. I have an interview with BCBS this week and hopefully that will be what I am looking for. They would have to offer me good pay and flexible hours to make it worth my commute. I would love 4 days a week so I can enjoy time with my dogs and my home on the Cape. Have you found a job yet? It id relly hard finding a job when you are new. The good news for you but bad for me is that you and I will probably be making the same amount of money ( I have 19+ years experience :(). That is a bad part about nursing that experience is not really important but good for you because you will be paid a livable wage. Good luck with your search and please throw me some led if you have them. Kellie

LOL!! SInce I am looking for hands on you would DEFINITELY make more, they pay by experience for floor nurses! Travelers definitely, it is in Middleboro but I know the woman who runs the dept. and she is amazing I think she is looking for 3 experienced RN's not sure the pay, but I think it is pretty good. All the nursing supervisors at the LTC's, Home care etc. all have easy schedules and good pay.

I do have a job, I hate it makes me wonder why I wanted to be a nurse-hate saying that but it is a VERY hard job with little to no support/teamwork and crappy schedule. I look everyday for something new and haven't found anything yet, for me it is all LTC, LTC, LTC! Look into nurse managers jobs they usually pay well and have great schedules-especially in LTC! Where I work some are out by 2 every day and only work 3-5 days per week with on call once in a while from home.
