NSLIJ Pediatric ICU Fellowship 2014

Published

Did anyone else apply for this fellowship? Have you heard anything yet? Application went up last Friday (it is down now). Just wanted to hear other people's experiences with the process.

Anyone who applied/got an offer in the past have any advice to share?

I too have applied to the PICU April 2014 fellowship. I have not heard anything as yet. However, i did have a couple of questions of my own in regards to what sort of documents were required of the applicants. Since the posting is no longer available for editing, i only hope that i gave in the right ones. I gave in a cover letter, resume, transcripts, along with letters of reccomendation. Did i leave anything out?

My second question was, How long does it take to hear back from NSLIJ talent acquisition? What is considered a good competitive gpa? Are only recent graduates considered for the fellowship? So many questions! Anyone who has gone through the program, it would be greatly appreciated if some insight could be shared with us. Thank You in advance!

They usually hire for the fellowships pretty quickly. Just relax and keep your phone volume turned up. Also if your not familiar with performance based questions get familiar with them. I wouldn't be surprised if they call you requesting for a phone interview on that very call, be prepared.

If you want to know more about the fellowships style, look up posts by billythekid, he went through the fellowship a few years back and gives good insight into what to expect.

I just passed my boards last week and applied for the fellowship the day I took the nclex. The job became unlisted and I got a call today from HR. I have an interview this week. I'm hoping all goes well because if it works out it would be a dream come true. I rotated through the PICU during my capstone and am already working as a PCA for north shore university hospital and have been for the passed 4 years so I hope that gives me some kind of advantage. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Congrats on landing an interview. Do return and let us know how it went. Sounds like they called you back quickly.

I have been trying to get into LIJ for the longest and I am not a new grad. What is the deal?

I'm in the same boat kemi. Not a new grad but no acute care experience. Keep at it. Don't give up. Keep your eyes on those fellowships as the come up.

I was passed onto two interviews: the recruiter and the nurse manager of the unit. I was able to shadow one of the nurses on the unit for the day....now I'm waiting to see if anything comes from it. I'm sitting here hoping for the best but whatever happens, happens.

For those who applied, do you mind sharing how many letters of recommendation were required with the application?

I didn't give them any but if you do decide to do so you should probably get one from your peds instructor and one from your icu instructor. The only things they asked me for was my license, registration, bls and transcript.

I applied to the fellowship for January and was accepted into the April fellowship, because I interviewed too late for January. Interviews were very easy, everyone is friendly. Start April 21!
