Anyone attend NP school online? I finished my BSN online and am looking into adult or family NP online schools. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Cheapest in the US $229/unit - No one has ever failed boards - great faculty.

Specializes in NPD; Administration; M/S; Critical Care.

Tammy70, RN,

Was it difficult to arrange clinicals in your area? How does one go about arranging clinical experiences? Did you receive any guidance/assistance from the school for this?

Thanks in advance,

Not too difficult. The school leaves it to the student to secure the preceptor and site.

So, a student is expected to find preceptors in each of the covered areas for FNP, such as peds, ob/gyn, internal med/etc? Sorry if this question is so basic, but I am interested in this program, just curious as to how this works.

Thanks in advance,

Out of 665 required clinical hours, you need 150 hours each for peds, adults and geriatrics. Also, you need 150 hours for ob/gyn. I chose a preceptor who does all, so I don't need to get another, but many students have preceptors who either don't do OB or have limited peds. If your preceptor doesn't see OB, you need an additonal one who does to meet the hours. Same deal with peds.

Also, FNP students need a family practice setting. ER's, urgent care centers, fast tracks, minute clinics and the like will not work because of lack of continuity.

This is very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions!:)

No way. They not only require advanced nursing research, but make you suffer through advanced nursing research II.

Sounds more like a torture chamber.

Specializes in CTICU.

I'm sure we've already had this discussion. Every grad program requires nursing research.

Specializes in women's health, NICU.

what about PNP programs?? anyone know anything about those?? I too am very interested in an online program! any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!!

That is not correct. True there are 2 research courses, but the first of the two only reviews or duplicates the research course at the BSN level. This course provides how to critique evidence and reviews fundamentals for those who have graduated from a BSN many years ago. The second course is the graduate course. Also, speaking of abuse, USI is the only NP program that does not require graduate level statistics.

I'm sure we've already had this discussion. Every grad program requires nursing research.

Not TWO of them.

Did I mention I hate nursing research?
