NP Programs

What do you guys think of online NP programs? Do you think they are well received by employers?

I would imagine it depends on the job. I think it also depends on the NP you are considering. I personally don't have an opinion on NP programs (I'm a long way off) but I find it a little sketch that you can complete it online. It tends to be the most criticized part of of NP education. I personally wouldn't do an online program.

I am in online program which is highly ranked both locally and nationally, has median GPA of >3.7in my class and whose grads are highly sought for. The classes are demanding and workload is high, and bloatware courses are cut to bare minimum except for research component. The Boards passing rate is 100% over last several years. I did two grad level courses during my last BSN semester in brick-and-mortar university program (known to be weak) and my current courses level is way higher.

I am an older person with family, a teen at home, hobbies, obligations and a job. I have no time or desire to move or hit the road 2.5 hours one way sans traffic three times a week and pay twice more for the same thing simply because I will physically sit there instead of doing the same in my own house. Both programs I considered (one online, one brick-and-mortar, same university, different campuses) required students to find their own clinicals. I was accepted in both and chose online, which was cheaper, quicker and more convenient.

I'm going to a highly ranked bricks and mortar state school for my acute program. It's affiliated with a large state teaching hospital so we get great sim labs that are state of the art as well as excellent instructors. Our clinical placements are arranged for us at the 4 top hospitals in the state. The post-graduation employment rate is 99% and job offers are usually forthcoming in the final semester. I wouldn't swap it for the world. Most of the didactic classes are online but we go in to class for anything that has a practical component. Most of my NP friends graduated from a select few schools and were hired in my hospital right away. Because they were placements from well known local schools they get first offers of preceptors so I can't imagine there's much left over for online students who have to arrange their own clinicals.
