Hi...this is my first time posting. I'm 45 and I'm attempting to become an rn for the 2nd time. In 2003 I took a year's worth of prereqs to go to an accelerated BSN program. I made it through half the program ($15K + expenses) and at the last momement, failed the Pharm final. They wouldn't let me return to class until I could pass Pharm although they didn't offer it for 4 more months. I began searching for another school. I found several schools "willing" to take some of my accelerated credits but most schools just wanted me to start all over, square one. After one year, I was accepted to an ASN program that was originally a 3yr diploma school. The curriculum committee felt that I was able to start mid-program with only 3 semester to finish. I was ecstatic. Two weeks before the start of school, the dean of admissions got "cold feet" and talked me into adding another semester...because I had been away from the process for one year. So, I made it through Nursing 3 in the fall, I'm in Nurs. 4 now. I planned to take 5 in the summer and 6 next fall...finish in Dec. 06. Well, to my chagrin, we received a new Dean in Nov. She is making all kinds of changes now and she has decided to omit all summer classes in lieu of mandatory curriculum meetings for her staff (our professors.) I am a mess because this puts me yet another semester away from attaining my goal (which originally was only supposed to be a year!) Now this whole thing is looking like a 4 year project. My husband and I don't even know if we will be able to borrow any more loan money for the extra semester. We're all tapped out. ANY IDEAS from the veterans out there?
