Hello everyone !!
I was looking for a post for the Entry-Level BSN program for Winter 2016 at Nova and I couldn't find one, so I decided to make one where we could all get in contact to discuss and share our experience, tips, thoughts and questions on this journey !
So, I guess I'll begin with mine!! I originally began my application to Nova April 30th (kind of late considering their deadline for registration was June 1st) for the Fall Semester. After I submitted both my nursingCAS and the NSU application, it took about 2 weeks to receive a response. I got my email for the interview May 19th. I immediately registered for an interview (June 4th, tomorrow!!!) and began to prepare.
I called Nova, to see if I could get some feedback as to what I could use to study from, or if there was any specific book I could purchase. The girl who I spoke to kindly informed me that there was no specific study guide and that the test would be based on previous knowledge from my prerequisites. With that being said, I immediately started googling and finding out as much information as possible about the Exam and the interview process (where I came to find this website that has genuinely helped me so much with gathering info). I then purchased the "Nursing School Entrance Exams" Kaplan book through Amazon, which cost me around $20, and began to study from that. I can' t tell you guys yet if that worked for me or not since we don't know the exact material of the exam and I hadn't taken the exam yet, but I'll make sure to come back and let you guys know how it went!
I received a call last week on Friday, that there were no more available seats for the Fall Term 2015. The girl I spoke to advised me to still present myself to the interview and take the exam. She also told me that the application could be moved to the Winter Term and that way I don't have to apply all over again and go through the same process. So, that's what I plan on doing.
I am so nervous for the exam more than anything, since I don't know what to expect, but I am trying to stay positive.
Good luck to all the new applicants for Winter Term and those that are on the same boat as me. Hopefully we are all together soon in the BSN program at NSU!!!!!!!
Hello everyone!
This forum has helped me so much! :)
Im having my exam and interview Sep. 29th, from the looks of it Math was a piece of cake (I suck at math) and Science was super hard?
:/
I took A&P two semesters ago. So I really need to freshen up. Any recommendations? Please and thank you
Also, whats the minimal score you have to get in order to be accepted for the exam?

Math is a piece of cake! It's just adding subtracting multiplying and deviding fractions. Go on YouTube to freshen up on fractions if you need to. YouTube anatomy videos for systems that Steven mentioned earlier on this forum. Khan academy is the best in my opinion! As for the score for the Kaplan, anything around a 60 overall is considered good. But they say that they don't base your acceptance completely off the exam. They consider the essay, exam, your GPA, grades, transcript all together and then they decide. I hope this helps!

Hi Jennifer! I am terrible at math (seriously), and I didn't have any trouble with that portion of the exam. As for the science just study from any notes you may have from your A&P classes, also like Andry said, watch YouTube videos. That's what I did.. I took my last A&P class over a year ago, so imagine! The Science portion isn't terrible, they just ask questions that make you think a little because they have some type of scenario, plus the nerves that you have while taking the exam don't help either lol. You'll do great!! No worries! Just try to make an impression in the interview, talk a lot and participate if its a group interview (mine was a group interview). Good luck!!!! Keep us posted !
Hey guys my name is Anna!
I literally read this ENTIRE post haha So I applied to the Miami/Kendall campus and my interview is this upcoming Tuesday (22nd). I can't explain to you guys how helpful this post was so THANK YOU! I'm nervous but excited for my interview! I hope I will become one of your classmates. You guys basically answered all my questions but I have a couple more:
For the math section, the Kaplan book has really hard questions. Would you say the questions on the exam are just straight up like 1/2+1/6=____ or is it like word problems and then I have to figure out myself if I have to add or subtract them etc.
Another question is...On Khan Academy what should I search for because I do not see anything that directly says Anatomy & Physiology.

Hi Anna I'm glad our participation in this forum has answered most of your questions! Math on the Kaplan is more like 1/2+2/3. I don't remember there being to much word problems, it's very straight forward. As for Khan academy, YouTube the system your struggling or want to freshen up with and then type Khan academy. For ex. "Cardiovascular system Khan academy"

I'm assuming is similar to the Hesi which I've studied before and never took the test, I guess with can find questions like Fulana lost 3 lbs each month for six months. How much weight did she lost ?..... 3x6=18 so she lost 18lbs.

Annadearmas I am so happy this forum helped you ! The math is literally just like that 1/2+1/6= 0.6666 lol! AND you have a little calculator on the computer which I used during the exam, you are allowed to, of course. For the science, I recommend to review the systems briefly, mainly cardiovascular. The exam really isn't that bad, I promise. Just the nerves get the best of you, so I suggest to study over the weekend, and the night before get a good night sleep and try to relax for your exam and interview. I got accepted at the Miami Campus so hopefully we become classmates!!!!
