Looking for any info on this online program. It is for the RN to BSN Program at Nova Southeastern University. I'm not an RN yet, but want to get my BSN after I obtain an Associates degree.

Thanks

Hi,

Nova happens to be in my town. Haven't looked into it too much...was checking into the rn-bsn option, but I thought it was very expensive. I don't know about the online option though.

it is very expensive $441 per CREDIT when I was there in jan 05. I am sure it's gotten more expensive since.

I am looking into FIU's online RN-BSN program

i am currently in nova's rn-bsn online program and will graduate in august. i can't say it has been easy, but it is do-able. what i liked about their program is that unlike state universities, they give you alot of credit for the classes already taken from your original rn program. i only had one prerequisite to take (sociology) because i didn't have that class in my rn program. the program is pricey though. i started in january 2007 and will graduate in august 2008--no breaks except for a couple weeks at christmas. good luck in your decision.

because the program is TOO PRICEY, I am going to a state school.

:yeah:i am an official student for the rn-bsn online progam at fiu!!!!

they took all my previous credits from my aa at mdc and all my nursing from bcc--

as a matter of fact, i thought i had 2 classes missing before starting the rn-bsn program there, and when i spoke with the advisor, she said it was not necessary as long as i had my aa.

i am so happy, i am only taking 2 classes at a time, and next semester i will take 3 because one is nursing the other two are 3k level electives required so it should not be too bad.

and the program is not as pricey as nova or barry or um---

and the best part is that i get my money back at the end of the semester from work!

UPDATE:

I am still at FIU online RN-BSN program, and am taking the 2 classes. THey are not hard at all, just writing 250-300 word papers every week for each class.

So far so good :0)

I am not an RN yet...am an LPN and am starting the bridge program at Miami Dade January 2009. I want to get my BSN afterwards and I would like to know how long the RN to BSN will take for FIU? Are you going part-time? Do you know if it is the same amount of time for UM and Barry? Thanks :wink2:

Last time I checked the UM and barry sites-- um was $1,176/credit and barry was $750/credit -------- I don't know how much that has changed.

FIU is $109/credit

if you want to go full time to FIU, you could finish EVERYTHING in a year. there is one part of the 3 semesters where you clep 3 classes which equal up to 30 credits (psych, medsurg, and peds) and they do this because we already have "done" it in our ASN program but we need the 3K levels needed for BSN. If you don't pass those tests then you have to take the classes with the generic students to get your credits... but I was told by the counselor that most all people pass.

You do get credit for EVERYTHING that you did prior in your ASN program--mind you, you do have to have your general education AA. You will have to dish out a lot of $$$ for those schools that give you credit, but you end up taking them somewhere down the line in those programs.

Nova only required 33 credits to get in their generic bsn program, while fiu requires the 60 AA. So at nova you end up taking nutrition, advanced a&p, a bunch of writing courses------ they need to make up those extra credits somehow.

If you were smart like me, I did everything that FIU required for the bsn while I was on the waiting list for my ASN program, I finished everything and did not have to take any classes before starting the rn-bsn program, I started the program without any problems.

Personally, I am going part time because I have a family and I work full time-- so having a 2 year old is a handfull, plus I have a house to run and huge bills to pay.

So part time works well for me, so I am only taking 2 classes at a time. and FIU so far it's a great school. I am making really good grades, so I am very happy FIU was my only choice for RN-BSN program.

There are a lot of choices out there, and I think that state schools are the best.

by the way, i went to community college for my AA and ASN.

I went to nova one semester, because I was desperate to be an RN and BCC had not called me yet, MDC never accepted me.

and my heart and soul were set on becoming an RN.. I did not see myself doing anything else.

I was so lucky enough that after I failed that one class at nova, BCC called me, and I started that fall, and everything else is history, next month I complete my 1st year with my license as an RN.
