I am currently looking for a new job at a hospital. I'm wanting to get some critical care experience. I shadowed in NICU and I really liked it. I've applied for the job there about 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything. Human resources won't tell me anything either. I interviewed at another hospital in the same area, but it's for PACU. This hospital does not have a NICU. I'm just wondering if it would annoy the hospital with NICU if I continued to call them and let them know that I am interested and looking at other places also? It's hard to get into a critical care unit now, unless you have experience and a bachelors degree.

I would probably call once every 2-3 weeks to Human Resources, just to follow up on the application if you haven't heard anything.

I wouldn't tell the NICU that you are looking at other places, too. It could work against you. They probably assume you are looking at other places since most people apply for multiple positions when looking for a job. Like the previous poster said, continue to follow up every 2 weeks or so to show you are still interested.

It isn't critical care, but PACU is the most difficult position to get around here. It is strictly 7-4 Mon-Fri. Never w/e, holidays or nights, no call. Emergent after hours procedures are recovered by the CRNA (unless he or she can justify dumping them in the unit, lol). It might make getting into a unit easier if they know you have some experience taking care of pts who are hemodynamically unstable, intubated, alines, mx gtts, etc.
