:crying2: MY DREAM IS TRAUMA
Well, couldn't land the hospital job I so wanted....wouldve taken any area HOSP & any floor.....but never got a call back after approx 60 applications I completed. Central Ohio is tough all over d/t too many nursing schools. All my friends were already a shoe-in d/t being techs at the hospitals.....I was stna at nursing home 6 mins from my home. After realizing I needed to start making the money NOW and couldnt wait on the hospitals to call....I took the dreaded Night RN supervisor job my work offered me.....I wanted to be a floor nurse only....was told it is this or nothing.
THE SHIFT IS HORRIBLE ; mon-fri 8 hour nights VS the 3 twelves I dream of! I FEEL LIKE A MEER PAPER PUSHER and not a nurse at all !!!! Plus, the transition I made from aide to supervisor....do you really think the LPNs and aides take me seriously ??? HECK NO THEY DONT ! Sure Ive gotten to start an IV or 2 ...flush some PICC lines, etc...whatever my LPNs cant do...but NO REAL nursing skills are getting practiced on reg basis, nor do I get the contact w/ my residents any longer.
Too busy filing, scheduling, reviewing nurses notes, etc.
I AM IN HELL ....the night shift is killing me and by weekend ...all I do is sleep...my family misses me.
But chances of getting in some place else are bad....Ive only been at this for 3 months !!!!
ADVICE PLEASE.....I AM GRATEFUL IN ADVANCE!
Sincerely,
Bored, tired, un-stimulated new nurse

I know quite a few nurses who started out working nights at SNFs and are now at hospitals.
