Hey everyone,
I work on a stepdown floor right now and have been there for 1 year. I am looking for a new job because I am very unhappy with my current one (very unorganized!). I was waiting to approach my year mark and now that I have hit it, I have applied to about 15 jobs within the past week. The thing is, I am not getting ANY call backs! I thought for sure it would be easier to find a new job now that I have a year of critical care on my resume, but I just keep getting the "you do not meet the requirements" email . I am just wondering if this is because I do not have my BSN? I fully plan on getting my RN to BSN but want to establish a new job first.
Why else do you think I am not being considered? I have been mainly applying to hospitals and some home care positions. I feel my resume is well written and I always provide a cover letter. I felt very confident in the beginning of my job search that I would be able to be a little more picky about what jobs I am looking for now that I am not a new grad anymore but not I am getting more and more discouraged by the day.
Any advice on resumes or ways to get recruiters to give me a chance is appreciated!
Thanks everyone! :)

How long was your orientation? Have you been a year as an independent nurse or only about eight months? That may make a difference. It takes about two years for a new nurse to become competent as a nurse; unfortunately confidence may come much earlier.
Whether or not the BSN is the issue depends upon the market where you are. Perhaps you need to start work on a BSN or perhaps move to a different area. ADNs are actually preferred in some markets because they tend to stay longer. (Nothing like hiring a BSN and having them give notice that they're leaving to go to anesthesia school . . . and they're still on orientation!)
And then again, it could be your resume.
It may have a factor, but I doubt it, at least not in every single instance. I know of some ADNs who have gotten every job they've ever wanted. In only one year, they've been promoted three times. I, myself, have a BSN and can't get anything outside of SNF/Rehab/LTC. Unfortunately, some people have all the luck and other people struggle, and there's not always a good answer.

Keep in mind that one of the Institute of Medicine national goals is 80% BSN level nurses by 2020. I think this is also related to the Magnet hospital stuff as well. So I would think that hospitals are often going to go for BSN's first over ADN's unless you have a specific skill or experience set that they really want. I think as others have said, Getting started in a RN to BSN program will help a lot.
