I do my nails that way, too, and I'd think a clear polish would be preferable to chipped and peeling natural nails. (Wouldn't they be more likely to harbor bacteria?) I'm just starting out myself, so I'll wait and see what the instructors say.
I use a product called "Nail Envy" by OPI--it's good for your nails (strengthens and treats) yet it isn't super shiny; it just looks like you've buffed your natural nails--I'm hoping it will go unnoticed.

What about short, filed nails with a coat of sheer neutral polish? I have done this for years, just because the surface of my nails is .. not what I would like... I also apply several coats of acrylic top coat. Is this, in your opinion O.K. for nursing? I see no problem with it, but, I am just about to begin nursing school. Thanks
