Northwell Health RN Fellowships July 2022

Published

Hii! Just starting a feed for the Northwell health July 2022 RN fellowships!

Hey @JeanneRN! So I actually went to Lenox Hill’s Interview Day. I signed up and reached out to the HR recruiter via LinkedIn as well. She called me the same day and set up an interview with the OR manager on 05/24. When I showed up, it was so fancy! They had balloons, refreshments, and all the managers were sitting on their own table and their departments were posted on a banner behind them. It was very organized. I only met the OR manager and she was so welcoming. She just asked me, “tell me about yourself” & “why are you interested in the OR” and our conversation just branched out from there. I inquired about shadowing and that night, an HR recruiter called me to set up a shadowing day the next day. I showed up at 9am, got a complete tour of the OR by the manager, met many staff members, shadowed one case with an OR nurse, and saw them do a turnover (give report to PACU, clean up, set-up, get the pt from pre-op, etc), which was a great experience and opportunity! That experience really sold it for me and the manager seems to like me. I was given the chance to stay there longer but I ended up leaving at around 12pm bc I got hungry. I reached out to the recruiter and told her about my experience and how much I loved it. She didn’t reach back out to me until almost a week later. Within that time, I emailed her twice before she got back to me. She called me and told me that the OR director (who I didn’t get to meet at the Interview Day) was waiting for an essay from me, which I was not told prior until that conversation, so I quickly did it and sent it to her the next day (prompt: how was my experience in the OR). Now I’m just waiting. Hopefully I get some sort of update soon ?

That sounds lovely ?  But wow I am pissed for you about the essay though!! Did you hear anything or get a reference submission email? I just got an email to enter references, but I don't know if that means they are going to accept me or if they do this to decide who to go with based of references. Follow up a bunch, is my advice. Do you have contact with a recruiter? I think that is usually super super helpful too.

Also regarding the start date, yes it is July 29 based on what I have been told and what the former cohort start dates were.

@BSNRN123 Hi! I was just wondering if you are a new grad nurse or you have experience as a nurse? I just graduated from the nursing program and I feel that my chances of getting the fellowship is low because I don't have much experience in the OR. Just wanted to know the experience of my fellow applicants. Best of luck to you!

When I applied to the ED Fellowship I received an offer as a new grad brand new nurse. They like new grads because they can "mold" us. I received an offer from nyu, so I didn't go forward with northwell. Good luck! They love new grads.

Wondering if anyone received a call back or any updates on the fellowship?

To those who have been accepted or know someone who was accepted, what's your schedule after orientation. Was it nights or days? Did anyone receive an offer in the OR?

@JeanneRN Hey! Any updates? Did they offer you a position?

I have accepted an Oncology fellowship position and had my pre-employment screening last week. I have not heard anything from the recruiter since last week. I passed my NCLEX 2 weeks ago so I should be all set. The tentative start date is apparently still July 29 but I have not gotten any details or know what is going to happen after the first orientation day. My friend was offered an OR fellow position. Has anyone else been accepted to the Oncology fellowship at LIJ Ney Hyde Park?

Congrats! How long did they take to send you the offer letter? I accepted a verbal offer over the phone but I haven’t received anything yet.

Thank you. I received the offer letter a few hours after the phone call on 6/7. I would give your recruiter a call and tell her that you haven't received the formal offer email. You have to accept it online and then start a bunch of online modules and your pre-employment screening has to be finished and approved before the start date.
