Northern NJ/Southern NY Part Time Nursing Programs

Published

Greetings all,

A family member is considering a mid life switch into nursing. A part time program in which one can maintain their full time 9-5 employment and still attend nursing school at night/weekends/etc. is needed. Many local schools have programs (Bergen Community College/Dominican College/Holy Name Hospital/Fairleigh Dickinson University/Ramapo College, etc.) all offer programs but does anyone have experience with any of the programs?

Thanks in advance.

I attended Union County College and enjoyed my experience. There are classes during day, evening and weekend.

This one is part-time and full-time program

http://www.sunyrockland.edu, it has day, evenings and weekend classes and clinicals. It has few online classes too. It is located in Suffern, NY. You could transfer classes that are upto 10 years old.

Good luck

I am at BCC.

I applied to Rockland County too in Suffern, but was placed on a 1yr+ waiting list.

There is also, Passaic County, Seton Hall, Mountainside (sp?), William Paterson, Felician.

Keep in mind there are differences whereas some will offer Associates, some Diploma and some Bachelors. I say this because some hospitals (like Valley) will only take New Grads with Bachelors now. I believe by 2014, this will be the case with all.

i considered bcc to get my associates but i would need to take the evening courses and have been out of high school for 10 years. and then i read this: 1star.gif Evening Nursing applicants cannot be accepted until general corequisites (8 courses) have been completed. Evening nursing program accepts students for spring only.

2star.gif General Education Elective.

Exit Examination: A nationally standardized examination will be given. Only those students who achieve a passing score and have met all other degree requirements will be certified by the Director to take the NCLEX-RN.

Note: Students enrolled in this program ARE REQUIRED to successfully complete a course in basic algebra if indicated by the Basic Skills Placement Test.
