Northern Illinois University Nursing Fall 2015 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I've applied to Northern Illinois University for the nursing program. I'm waiting to hear back from them. I am a current NIU student. I applied last year as a transfer and was denied. I'm hoping to make it in this year. I have finished all my prereqs and my GPA is a 3.39. I'm not sure that is good enough.

I applied to Rockford University also. I was accepted there for Fall 2015 but NIU is my first choice. Is anyone else waiting to hear from NIU? Do any past applicants have some insight?

From what it seems (by looking at threads from the years before) current students should be finding out in about 2-3 weeks. Help!

I just got my acceptance letter today! I was accepted for a Spring 2016 start, but I will be declining my seat. So for anyone who will find out they're on the waiting list, a spot just opened up! Good luck :)

My GPA is 4.0. I haven't transferred yet to NIU. I applied for their nursing program as a transfer student. And no, I haven't heard back from them yet. It could be anytime from now on...

How did you find out? I noticed you said you got the acceptance letter today...was it through mail or email? I assume that was through mail, though.

Yes it was through the mail! i actually saw it and said out loud "wow I didn't get in" because it was a small envelope and I was expecting a large one. One of my other friends also got her acceptance letter today, but she was accepted for the fall.

I wonder when will I find out? What was your GPA if you don't mind? And also, did you finish all the pre-reqs and electives when you applied? Or did you still have some pre-reqs left?

I don't mind at all! I only had a 3.2 cumulative GPA, but I have a 3.9 in my prerequisites (and I know their website says they care primarily about the prerequisite GPA). I have Microbiology in progress now, but that's it. Also, I'm not sure if they accepted my stats class so if not, then those are the only two prerequisites I have in progress, which would explain why I was accepted for Spring 2016. Also, I didn't take the accuplacer because I already have my bachelor's degree. Hope that helps!

It does help, thank you! I also have a bachelor degree from another country, but when I had it evaluated in the US it came back as the equivalent of 3 years of undergrad studies...and so for this reason I had to take the Accuplacer exam. For the same reason, I'm not eligible to apply to any accelerate programs as they require a previous Bachelor degree.

When I applied, I was left to complete Psych 224 and Nutrition, but I'm taking them over the summer...I also have some electives left. I applied to UIC as well, so whatever classes I've taken so far I made sure they match the criteria for both NIU and UIC.

I'm still hoping to get even if it is Spring 2016...

Oh i would have loved to go to UIC too! actually, at Valparaiso University where I'm going, the accelerated program is open to people without previous bachelor's degrees! It was one of two schools that I've found that offer that. It is significantly more expensive, so it really comes down to time vs. money, but that is definitely an option if you had your heart set on an accelerated program.

what is the other school that offers this type of program?

Lakeview college of Nursing, it's near EIU. There are many curriculum options, but I think the shortest is 16 months (Fall-Spring-Summer-Fall). From my understanding it was in the 30k price range so also not bad at all for a private accelerated program, just sort of in the middle of nowhere haha (Danville, IL).

Anyone who is in Spring 2016 will be in my cohort! :)

Happyinmyheart....I just got my acceptance letter yesterday so I'll see you next year!!!
