Northeastern University Direct Entry September 2016

Published

It's a little early but I just wanted to start this to see if anybody has heard from Northeastern University regarding an interview or decision. All posts about the school/application and acceptance process welcomed!! Looking forward to hearing from some people!

My interview was about two weeks ago.

I just got called yesterday for an interview so they are still calling!! Also, if you haven't gotten a call about acceptance, don't worry too too much. I believe they accept through mid March. I know people who interviewed in December and the director told her not to expect to hear until mid-late feb.

I interviewed for psych in January and still haven't heard back! But they called me a little over a week ago and they said I should have a decision within the month so hopefully I get some news in the next week or two

hey everyone. I interviewed about a week ago and haven't heard back yet either. Does anybody know how many people get denied after an interview? My interview went very well but it wasn't ultra personal or rigorous so I am curious to know what they really gained from it other than hearing exactly why I wanted to be in this program/a NP? Other interviews I have been on asked much more about my experience and what I gained from that.

Has anyone still not heard back for an interview? I know they don't necessarily interview everyone. A friend of mine got accepted without one but I'm still nervous.

when end they called me Friday they gave me the option of coming in Tuesday (tomorrow) or next Tuesday or Wednesday. Not to say that those are the last days interviews are being conducted, but at the very least they are definitely having people come in those days so you may get a call this week regarding those dates? good luck. I know the stress of waiting around by the phone.

I graduated from this program. There are some excellent professors and excellent clinical instructors; however, the overall administration is incredibly disorganized. You will get a great education, but be aware of the disorganization going into the program.

can you elaborate at all on the disorganization? also, do you know how the cost of the program is in comparison to other direct entry programs.

During our time in the program (only 16 months), they changed the amount of time needed as an RN before continuing into certain speciality tracks, which was very frustrating for some students since that is why they chose Northeastern. The final practicum course is very poorly planned and disorganized. Again, many of the professors are excellent and clinical instructors wonderful; however, the changing of the requirements was very frustrating.

In regards to cost, I am not sure. It is an expensive program, but they all are.

Overall, I have not heard good things about the program, either. I also am not at all thrilled by its length. By the time our incoming class graduates, many MSN programs around the country will have been phased out and replaced by the DNP, so it just seems like a waste to invest so much time/money when we will likely need more schooling in the future. I found out this week that I was accepted into BC's Direct Entry Program, so I may just cancel my interview if my heart isn't in it. Thank you newnurse2016 for being honest about your experience. You reiterated what I've heard from other nurses and healthcare professionals regarding NEU, so I think I'm going to go with my gut on this one.

Just to note: I think the length of the program is appropriate. My understanding is the BC does not offer a BSN. If you are 100% positive that you will not want to practice as an RN, then this might be okay; however, you may decide that you want to practice as an RN, in which case you will need that BSN as most Boston hospitals will only hire with BSN.

I would advise you to check in with students (current or former) from the BC program, as there may be some similar frustrations. In the end though, I agree that you should go with your gut. These programs are expensive, and you need to go with what program you believe will best fit your life goals and career goals. Best of luck!
