Years ago I met with the director of this program and really loved it. Over the past 2+ years I've been doing the prereqs and volunteering at a hospital. It began to go to the backburner because I felt an accel BSN would be a better choice. Well now that I am ready to apply I can't get this program out of my head as being the top choice. SO I'm aiming on the GRE's for Sept to apply for their deadline. Just wanted to see if any students could provide some input on their experience there, and post graduation. I had a NP a few years ago at Harvard Vanguard in Copley who was a graduate and said such great things. I also can see that only Northeastern students get these intern positions at MGH (I'm sure there are internships open to all as well, but I see just Northeastern ones- I'm an employee at Partners). This makes me think they have an advantage... anywho, any feedback would be sooo greatly appreciated!!:redbeathe
Sorry I have totally lost touch lately. I am nose deep in applications. About the revised GRE - I honestly liked it better than the last one. The only problem is that I will not have an official score until November. They gave me a range based on the old score, but are apparently waiting for 3 months of test takers to compare the new scores with old scores to really determine the relation between old and new scores. So... basically if you want to take it again I would say that the overall concept is easier to grasp. The timing was much better for me on this one, especially in the quantitative sections because the calculator allowed you to do quick simple math for larger problems so you didn't waste time or make silly little mistakes doing everything long hand.
Anyway... that is my summation of the revised GRE.
Jsanowit - Halebale is right that most schools look for a minimum of 1000 for the GRE based on the old score. Again, as with anything, the higher you can get the better. Also, all scores are sent to schools from the past 5 years so even if you had a big bad score, it will show. I have a general distaste toward standardized tests as I believe they only measure someone's ability to outsmart the test creators, not actual applicable knowledge related to your future career. But, then again, I am not on any admissions committees. I like to believe that it really is your overall application that is considered as a whole, but I guess we will all just have to wait and see!

hey guys, i attend another program in boston but northeastern had been my first choice. i hear it's a great program but from what i understand, they really only consider applicants who have previous clinical experience (hands on, as in full-time EMT, medical assistant, respiratory therapist, etc). pretty much everyone i know (myself included) who either worked in a hospital but not in a clinical role (administration or research) or came from a different career background was turned down. that's not to say that clinical experience guarantees you admittance or it's the only thing that matters, but i know 12 people who applied, only two were even offered interviews, and these two worked full-time in clinical roles. someone i know who was in the program told me 100% of her class has previous clinical experience. not to be a downer, just wanted to let you know my experience. if you don't have clinical experience, don't fret! there are plenty of other programs that don't rely so heavily on that aspect of the application.
Hi Guys.. I am applying to the "usual suspects" for Direct Entry in Fall 2012 too! I noticed that NEU accepts GRE and MAT. Did anyone take the MAT? I got 1080 on my GRE (decent but not too great) and a 413 on my MAT. It is a little harder to find what a "good" MAT score is.... I am planning to submit both I guess. Good luck everyone!
Thought I'd let people know the interview process has started! I got a call today about scheduling an interview for later this month. Very excited and already pretty nervous.
I did, the Pediatric Acute Care specialty. I've heard great things but I believe the program is really small so I am not getting my hopes up.
I don't know if the person I am interviewing with is representing the general direct entry program, the pediatrics program, or the acute pediatric program (looking online my guess is gen peds?). I was so flustered during the call I didn't think to ask!
