Hello!

Just got accepted to Northeastern's ABSN program for Fall 2016 :)

Thought I'd create this thread for people still applying and for those who have been accepted. Feel free to post about anything related to the process!

Funny you should mention that - we were just sent a list of things we'll need to buy for the school year. Send me a message with your email and I can forward it your way!

Hi! I can't seem to private message you but I would love this information as well. I don't know at what point they'll tell me if I made it off the waitlist and I don't want to be behind in case they inform me waaaay later.

Specializes in Neonatal ICU.

Did you get my PM? I've never done one before so I wanted to make sure you got it!

I was notified on Friday that I made it off of the waitlist and into the Fall 2016 cohort! Can't wait to meet all of you this Wednesday at Prep Day!!!

Hi, I just got accepted to Northeastern ABSN for the May Entrance! However, I will have an infant and really need an idea of what the schedule looks like so I can see how much childcare to line up and if it's feasible. Looks like 1-2 days are clinicals (all day?) plus exams and labs in Burlington. Are those full days? Part days? Is there any pattern to this schedule so I could plan on 3 regular days childcare per week and that would work for the whole semester or does it change by the week? Any help would be appreciated! I need to make a decision soon and having trouble deciding if this is possible. Of course, I'll need study time too...

@abk100 First of all, congrats! In the first semester, test days are Tuesday mornings for a one hour block in Burlington, lab days are either Wednesday or Fridays for a 3 hour block in Burlington, and clinicals are a 6-hour shift on a day that doesn't conflict with lab or tests. Besides that, the program is super flexible as far as completing lectures and assignments on your own time. Plus, you'll have the same schedule every week so you could plan for childcare on those days. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hello! I just got my acceptance letter to attend Northeastern University this coming September!! SUPER EXCITED!! I was wondering if any of you have found scholarships or ways to pay for the school? Also, do any of you know how much rent is? I know we can't live on campus and wanted to know on average how much rent will be! Can't wait to meet you all!!

I have been debating between Burlington and Charlotte and have asked counselors about scholarships, particularly since I saw someone mention a $15,000 scholarship for Charlotte....apparently that amount was a "one-time" thing to give some of the people in Boston a chance to start at the new location and ease relocation. My counselor told me that there are occasional scholarships but, whenever one might be extended, I have to be able to show how i am paying whatever amount remains to fund the program before a final decision is made....guess they've been burned by people trying to get the money and run or something....i'm searching all over to find any possible scholarships but (trying to listen to my counselor and after talking to my parents) I'm putting heavier focus into planning out loans and how i can make those work so i can at least make the goal of STARTING in a program happen. Based on my research NU really seems to have a great reputation and seeing different posts on here and other places has me confident in that decision, but it is really stressful trying to figure out how to come up with all the money

Hello @kcullen1313, I am currently applying to NEU absn program in Charlotte. You are probably somewhere in the middle/towards the end of your program now. I was wondering if you could comment on the online component of the curriculum.

1. Do you feel there are any negatives about the online component?

2. Has that influenced your relationship with your cohort/classmates (do you feel connected to the students in your class)?

3. Do you feel like you have enough opportunities to ak the faculty questions?

4. Do you actually have the opportunity to speak with faculy that teach the online courses face-to-face if you have questions or is everything done online?

5. How helpful are the faculty if you have questions about the material?

I know the Burlington location may be different than Charlotte but any advice or info you have will be a huge help! From my research, I really like Northeastern and I visited the Charlotte campus. The clinical labs that they have set up for student learning are phenomenal. I am just worried about the online component of the curriculum, because I usually prefer face-to-face courses. I also like how this school treats you as a human during the admissions/application process. Their admissions counselors are phenomenal and are a huge help with navigating the application and requirements! Another reason why I like this program.

Thank you for your feedback!

@franklin_washington - I'm actually graduating in two weeks, ah! As far as the online lectures are concerned, I was very hesitant myself about how I would like the program format, especially having just graduated from university where classes were all in-person. Honestly, I think the biggest "negative" component about the online classes is that you have to keep yourself extremely organized and self-motivated to stay on top of lectures and assignments. Since you can technically watch any lecture at any time or complete any assignment throughout the semester, you have to make your own schedule that works for you - for me, I treated the program like a "9-5" and watched lectures/did assignments in that time frame, barring lab or clinical hours.

Since you aren't in class with your classmates, the program encourages you to reach out to your classmates and study together. You will be in groups for your clinical hours in the hospital, which is where I made most of my friends. I'm not sure how big the Charlotte class is, but a change from undergrad for me was that I know almost everyone in my cohort, compared to undergrad where I was in 300 person lectures. We have a Facebook group, and there is very much a "we're all in this together" vibe.

Faculty typically hold on campus test reviews before the exams, but other than that, most are only available over email. I was never someone who utilized "office hours" much in undergrad, so not having the opportunity to ask questions in person didn't feel odd to me.

Feel free to send me a PM if you want my email for any other questions! Overall, I'm very happy with my decision to go to Northeastern's program.

Hey! I am entering the Spring 2018 cohort in Charlotte and would like to ask you about your experience with the online coursework part of the program? Thank you!

Thank you for sharing!! I really appreciate it! It was very helpful!

Anyone accepted to the Summer 2018 cohort? Still trying to decide between NEU, MCPH and University of St. Joseph in CT. How did you guys afford NEU? It's 75K, that's alot of money!
