ahh two job offers, CMC or Presbyterian?

  1. I am dying trying to decide what to do. I really enjoyed my interviews/visits to both hospitals. I am a new RN/BSN and interviewed at CMC first about 3 weeks ago. In fear of not getting another job offer, I accepted a position there, not JUST in fear, I like the unit and the nurse manager too.

I just interviewed at Presbyterian and they offered me a job on a unit that I realllllly want to work on. I loved the whole unit and liked what I felt there too.

I basically don't know how to compare the two. I know CMC is a teaching hospital, public, and a tad larger. I don't know how to compare Presbyterian.

Any advice? Should I go with the unit that I really want to work on, or stick to my guns after I accepted the first job at the hospital where I feel there is more "upward" mobility...?
    ?

I really don't have any concrete advice, but wanted to point out that Presby is a Novant hospital. You can check out their website for more info to better compare. Good luck and congrats

Hmmm. One thing I know about CMC is that their SON is closely attached to the hospital culture. Mercy SON offers a DIPLOMA. Queens at presby offers ahem an Assoc and a BSN.

This is not the argument about which is better, but just so YOU know what the nursing culture is like. More diploma-y less baccalaureate it seems to some.

If you go to Presby you can always get into CMC. So many say. It is a huge system.

Lemme know if I can be of more help.

I work at CMC and love it there it is definitely a teaching hospital and large but of course there are the smaller hospitals that the system owns as well. I actually just transfered to main from Pineville.
I think you just need to think about what you want and give it a try, my advice though is to give it at least 6 months before you leave if you don't like it.
You might also want to investigate what kind of orientation you are going to get and what will be the best for your career.
    Good Luck!

From what I hear and see....Presby

CMC pays new grads 18.96/hr plus diffs. sp 90d=19.36 +/-. That's public knowledge I believe. Presby pays a lil more than that...in the $20's./h.
