Hi All,
I'm new to this forum and the reason I'm writing here for my forst time is that I'm interested in Practical Nurse Distance education program in NorQuest college, but have a few questions before I finally decide to try applying.
If anyone took this program or knows something about I hope you will be able to help me with the answers:
1.I live in Ontario. I know that Practical nurse program requires many clinicals.
Can it be arranged close to home or I have to come for all of them to Edmonton? ( Can you please explain how it works? )
2.Some courses have lab component in them. Should I come for the labs?
3. The same question about the exams : Do I need to come or it can be done close to home?
4.Full time program must be finished within 2 years. What about distance education?
5. Can I take more then one course at the time?
6.How was overall organization of the program and wasn't it difficult to find a job after distance Practical Nurse Diploma?
Thank you!

From the Norquest website (http://www.norquest.ca/programs/certificate_diploma/practical_nurse.asp):
Distance Education Part-Time
You can't be evaluated on your clinical skills labs unless the instructor can see you doing your return dmeonstrations... so that means doing them in Edmonton, Wetaskiwin or Camrose. (Bullet #2)
I very much doubt that Norquest has a satellite examination centre in Ontario.
Bullet # 6
Bullet # 7
Nursing isn't something you can learn from a book or a video. Theories can be taught by distance ed but the actual hands-on, clinical, practical learning doesn't lend itself well to that method at all.

The distance ed programme was set up for people in remote areas of AB and northern BC.
The satellite centres are an improvement. Used to be every student HAD to come to Edmonton for the clinicals, etc.
