I am new to this site, but think these forums are absolutely FANTASTIC! It's great that fellow nurses/nursing students can network, ask questions, seek advice, etc.!
I have a BSN in Psychology and have just applied to NSU's ADN program that will start this Fall. I choose to apply to their ADN program rather than their 2nd degree Bachelor's because I would have had to take about 15 extra credits of pre-req.'s before I could apply. Since I already have a bachelor's I just wanted the quickets route to becoming a nurse! I feel like I have definitely taken the LONG way to getting here (as I'm sure most of you feel as well)! ; )
I also applied to Thomas Nelson, but unfortunately didn't score high enough on the NET to even be considered. I scored a composite score of 44 and you need atleast a 50. I have a strong science and English background, but math KILLS me! Ugh!
NSU's nursing website that letters shoudl be sent out May 15th. Anyone else apply to this program as well? I'd love to have someone to wait/stress/celebrate/cry with (depending on the outcome, ha). ; P
Are you done with all of your pre-reqs then? Because I was looking at the nursing curriculum & I have most of the general classes completed (should be done with all of them by the end of fall 09 semester) so I was looking to apply for Spring `10. That's too bad about them not informing you! But sadly with some schools you have to be informed.
Yes, I'm done with all of the non-nursing classes, with the exception of World Civilization I and II. But I can do that in the next few weeks through TCC. If I attend Hampton this Fall, I will actually be starting my clinicals. But I really am hoping for NSU. Still haven't heard back...
Got my letter today. I didn't get in. Which really doesn't make sense because I had a 3.0 cumulative GPA and all of my sciences done. I'm flippin' mad...

Sorry about Norfolk but its their loss, not yours. And Hampton is a great school! Thanks for the info I think I'll apply for Spring `10 ( i should have all my pre-reqs by then)
I'm, sorry about your news, but don't worry it, Hampton is great school and everything happens for a reason. I've been reading that Norfolk State program is unorganized anyway. Like you I got my letter today and I wasn't accepted and like you I was mad as hell. I have a 3.3 GPA and I couldn't understand how I could get into Hampton nursing program (which is a harder school to get in than Norfolk State) but not NSU's. After talking to my boyfriend about it I didn't stay mad too long bc I still have a chance to continue school with Hampton in the fall and there is nothing wrong with Hampton. Things happen for a reason, and I think I will be happy with Hampton......so Hampton here we come! It's NSU lost.
Question: Isn't Hampton's program a BSN program? So in my opinion, I think its better that you two got accepted into their program instead of NSU's ADN program. just my tho. :)

After meeting with one of the nursing academic advisors and reviewing my transcripts, the best option for me is going to be to start in the Fall at the main campus. Though VA Beach is significantly less expensive, if I go to the main campus, I can go directly into the nursing curriculum in the Fall. I will finish Dec. 2011, in comparison to May 2012 if I go to the VA Beach campus. The reason being is that the VA Beach campus is structured in such a way that certain classes are only offered once year. I've already taken the classes for their Fall schedule, and would have to wait until the Spring to go into my nursing classes. I'm excited, but I'm really nervous and slightly sick to my stomach because of the cost. It will be a total of $48,000 for my BSN. That's alot of money, but being a military spouse, I don't have the time to keep going back and forth, applying to these other programs that I may or may not get into.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the classes that they offer in the Fall ? That's sorta odd that they only offer them once a year but I know of other schools that do the same thing:o
Yes, Hampton's program is a BSN program, which of course is better than an ADN program (in terms of you might be more "marketable", and you also need a BSN to go on to get your masters for advanced nursing), but the COST is the killer part. The cost for me to complete my BSN in two years at Hampton will be about $48,000. :omy: NSU on the other hand, would have only cost me a few thousand (didn't do the math, but it's well under $10,000). So that's the bummer...knowing that I could have arrived at the same outcome (being a nurse!) for MUCH, MUCH less $!. For me specifically, the BSN compared to the ADN really doesn't matter, because I already have a B.S. in another field. The masters program I want to do has a track for ADN nurses with a Bachelors in another field...so I would have still been able to pursue an advanced degree, even without the BSN.
Oohh okay gotcha :) ..yea the price is pretty scary I'll admit. I got accepted into Hampton during my senior year of HS & it was pretty much my dream school BUT the dream turned into a nightmare when I saw how much the tuition was!
I called Hampton today to get the process started and I should be meeting with an academic advisor sometime next week to see where I stand. I know I'm still going to graduate in May 2012, so I'm fine with that because either way I'm still keeping my sophmore status. Hampton did send me a letter stating that I will be starting clinicals in may of '10. Also Hampton is a benefit for me bc I'm transfering from a BSN program and I want a BSN bc I'm planning to go to grad school. So as a whole I'm doing fine and as of right now I'm still going to the va beach campus
