Norcal RN new grad, will I ever find a job?

Published

I graduated in May with my ADN, took the NCLEX in July and immediately applied to universities and started my BSN. I have applied to 40 positions so far and have been rejected from roughly 30-34 of them.

I feel extremely discouraged. I just renewed my BLS, I have ACLS and PALS and I graduated from an extremely reputable school. I acquired letters of recommendation and have written cover letters.

I realize I've only been at the job search for a little over a month, but the sinking feeling that I may be unemployed for a lot longer is really getting to me.

Currently i work as a CNA in a SNF. I have worked in the field for 6-7 years roughly. I am trying to network, but it's been more challenging than I thought it would be as my connections havent panned out to be fruitful and have all but completely fallen through.

Where are you applying? California is the toughest market in the nation. Have you applied as a nurse where you already work as a CNA? What about other positions that are not acute care? Your ASN leaves you at a disadvantage for getting into a hospital residency, unfortunately.
