Anybody use other reference books to study? (not the "HESI" study guides). ex: I read some used Barron's EZ A&P to help study for the A&P. I think I'm looking for a grammer & reading comprehension practice books. any suggestions?

From what I have seen the study guide is the best way to go to pass the HESI.
The HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review is what is getting the best passing rates from everyone I have heard from and also seen here. I have it and it is working quite well. It has all you need that is on the test.
That's all I am sticking too.

I would definitely get the Barron's EZ A&P book! It has been a great help with studying for me. This is my second attempt of the HESI A2 (For the first I passes all of the sections but A&P) I wouldn't worry too much about the grammar or reading unless that is an area you struggle in.

I used a GED math review book to re-teach myself all of the algebra that I learned in high school. I don't have any problems with English and grammar. But you might browse some of the GED English & grammar books to see if you think they'd be helpful.
I had only one term of general biology in high school, 9th grade, lol. I took microbiology in college. I bought a Cliff's Notes Biology book at a discounter and used that to study biology.
I took all of the online practice tests that I cold find, too. Practice taking tests. It makes you better at them.
