Non-accredited schools

I'm moving to Pensacola Florida in a few months and none of the community colleges seem to be accredited for a R.N.(2 yr.) program. If I go to a college that isn't accredited is that bad? Will I not learn the skills I will need?

Thank you,

Sonja

This is just my opinion but I would never never consider a school that was not regionally accredited by one of the six regional accreditors. You will absolutely have trouble if you try to transfer credits should you want to obtain your BSN and MSN. I have been the last 6 months researching accreditation and nursing programs all over the country. Accreditation is very necessary to continue your education.

Also you need to consider laws in other states concerning your education. You may not stay in Florida for the rest of your life. Please do research your decision carefully. This is a lot of money, time, and heartache wasted if you pick the wrong school.

thanks orrnlori. I am definitely not going to PJC now. My dh is in the Navy and with his profession we thankfully have a few choices of where we want to live. So hopefully I can find a nationally accredited school in another location

It isn't good :uhoh21: As long as a nursing school is approved by the Board of Nursing in that state you can get your RN and work as an RN. The problem comes if you want to get a license in another state and/or get your BS. Most college programs will not accept a nursing program that is not accredited. Some will if you have a valid license but it is always iffy.

If you cannot pass NCLEX you cannot get a license. You would be a nursing school graduate working in a non-nursing capacity. If the school is non-accredited there must be a reason. Check with the state Board of Nursing.
