No more motivation

Published

I have been preparing for my RN retake and I have postponed it twice now...the first time was b/c I got sick and now it is b/c I have been working so much and when I am not working, I just dont have the motivation to study. I need to test by April 1st b/c that is when my ATT expires so I rescheduled for the first week of March. I also think it is b/c I have super bad test anxiety and I am beyond having a panic attack with how nervous and upset and worried I am. I just want to pass this test and get it done and over with! Anyone have any advice for a repeat test taker to regain motivation to study????

I guess you have to get back in the "serious student mode".. identify and know your priorities.. decide and do it!! weigh the good and bad.. you DO know the consequences of postponing the exam further ahead!! dedicate 4-5 hrs after job.. maybe more on your days off..it is possible.. download Apps (if you have an iPhone) or purchase cards- THEY DO HELP when you are away from your books.. make a schedule- give yourself enough time to go through each and everything!!.. do include exercise (both physical and mental relaxation- this will help to take care of your anxiety).. i have seen a lot of nurses posts about how they studied.. look into those.. stay connected... you've got the time...trust me.. i have bad anxiety too and i prepared in 14days.. i studied for longer periods.. you can do it too!!! seek help whenever you are stuck or just need motivation- allnurses.com is SOO good at that!! :lvan: GOOD LUCK! :anpom:

GOODLUCK!!! :rckn:

Set yourself a realistic study goal. Don't plan to spend 5-6 hours studying afterwork if you know that you can only concentrate for 2-3 hours. I found that when I was studying, I would plan to spend 8-10 hours a day studying (when I wasn't working), but actually found that I could only put in 5-6 hours max before I lost interest or started to feel stressed.

You sort of have an advantage because you have already taken the exam, so you know how the questions are phrased. Did you find that question style (SATA, med calculation, priority etc.) was a problem or do you think you need to review content? Maybe try doing at least 100 questions a day & making sure that you know the rational for correct & incorrect choices. If some days you feel like you can do more questions, then do more. But try not to overwhelm yourself by doing more questions than you can possibly remember (because you are still looking up rationals). If you plan your exam for the last week in March & do at least 100 questions everyday, you will have done over 5000 questions.

Don't give up! Best of luck to you!

Try to get help with your anxiety issues.

Thanks everyone! I have been to my PCM and I have a prescripton for a beat-blocker to help with calming me down...I opted for that over an anti-anxiety b/c they wig me out and that def wouldnt be good for this situation. I am trying to get in about 2-3 hours of studying everynight when I get home, I am doing content and questions just for the simple fact that I have been out of school for awhile and there are some things I have forgotten.

Right on! You can do this :)

Just believe in yourself I had a very hard time thinking I couldn't pass. You have to have confidence walking into that testing center!!! also do not postpone your test , set a date and stick to it. I wish I had taken it the first time I set the date, the longer you wait the less information you will remember. Especially s/s of medications! I was going crazy. Remember you graduated from nursing school that itself is a huge accomplishment you have the ability to pass this test and live your life again. you've taken it once, that's okay because the next time you take it you will pass! Study your weak areas and even if you can't answer questions.my friend gave me his R Guapz ? question book which helped me so much. It's called nclex in a flash something 24 hours. That book has alot of nemonics that will help you.
