No LTC jobs??

Published

I've been looking for a job for over a month now, and still nothing. I've only been called for one interview, and I am trying to figure out why. I am looking for a job in LTC, and have several years of experience as an RN in that field. I've submitted online applications at a bunch of places, and haven't heard back from them.

Is it because I am from out of state, and all my experience is from other states? Is it because my experience is in LTC as opposed to sub-acute?

Is it because my prior hourly rate ($33)-- which they ask for in the applications--is too high?

I've been checking the ads on Craigslist and Indeed, as well as whatever individual facility websites I can find. Is there anywhere else I can be looking?

Any feedback would be welcome. I am really starting to get worried about this situation. :uhoh3:

It's a bad/tough market out there. Looks like the Inova Loudoun Nursing and Rehab facilities is only hiring LPNs and CNAs right now. Wish I had something for you!

Thanks. I also noticed that the Cameron Glen and Commonwealth facilities suddenly stopped listing positions on the Inova website. One day there were positions listed...the next day, nothing. Makes me wonder what's going on with the sale of those two facilities. Kind of hard to fathom that they were hurting for nurses one day and then fully staffed the next!

I noticed that today when I checked the Inova careers site -- no jobs posted at all for those two facilities. I'm betting they're going to transition hiring to whoever it is that's buying them ... not sure if that's been announced yet. If I hear anything, I'll let you know.

Compared to what LTCs pay in my area ($22-28), your requested rate is kind of high. Mind you, you do have the experience to back it up...at the same time, you may need to be willing to negotiate.

The issue is that the applications are asking for a salary history. They aren't asking what I would like to make. Trust me, at this point I am really willing to negotiate! Unfortunately, on the online application, there is no room for any comments about being willing to negotiate-- it's just a fill-in-the -blank question about how much I made at my last job.

I am wondering if that is why nobody is calling me for an interview...

Thanks for your info on how much LTCs are paying. It helps.

Ah, didn't realize that was a history--I thought that was your desired salary :)

I would walk into places. I just passed my board in September and have gotten more interviews by walk-in than any other way. I just interviewed with a LTC yesterday by walking in and asking if they were hiring. Unfortunately, they're only willing to pay $20/hr to start but it's a mile from my home and it's experience. I'm not sure but they might be intimidated by your prior pay. They knew, at least in this place, that pay is what their problem is in retention and attracting new talent. By the way, how did you ever make $33/hr in LTC? That seems impossible right now.

NurseNurseHello!

I understand somewhat of what you are going through. I am a recent LPN grad and it's difficult trying to find a job. Everyone wants you to have atleast 1yr experience. But I managed to transition from a CNA to LPN at a local Rehab/LTC facility I had been working for over the past year. (I was lucky) But I'm looking for other opportunities. Like you, I have been searching and searching. I would suggest contacting MFA. They have over 10 facilities in the Virginia area. I work for Bayside healthcare in Va Bch. Here's the number 757-464-4058. Ask for Suzann. Have you tried Maxim agency? How about Favorite Nursing? We have several agencies you can do cases for. Another one is Nurse Advantage. They start of at $20.00hr for LPN's and I think $25-30 for RN's. Keep your head and something is bound to open up.:p

Take Care!

I was there for 8 years, and it was in another state.

When I first interviewed for the job there was a nursing shortage, and Nurses could pretty much pick and choose where they wanted to work. How things change! :(
